Favre To Tampa Still Unlikely

Posted Aug 5, 2008 by Roy Cummings

LAKE BUENA VISTA - The Brett Favre-to-Tampa rumors are heating up again. There’s just one problem, the Bucs remain rather cool towards Favre.

It may not seem that way, what with the Bucs still refusing to say they have no interest in Favre. The truth, though, is that the Bucs won’t involve themselves in serious trade talks for Favre until they have a real good reason to. In other words, the Bucs currently see Favre as a luxury, not a necessity. Until he becomes a necessity the Bucs will stay on the sidelines in this saga.

What would make Favre a necessity? Well, Jeff Garcia suffering a long-term injury would constitute a necessity. But then you have the issue of Favre’s $12 million contract. Quite simply, the Bucs don’t want to pay it. That’s why little has changed from the Bucs perspective on this.

So, they’ll continue to field calls from the Packers and they’ll continue to discuss a trade for Favre internally. But they won’t make a move on this front until they absolutely have to. And even then they will probably seek other alternatives to the problem before striking a deal for Favre.

Speaking or problems, the latest on Favre is the reason the Favre-to-Tampa Bay rumors are hot again. Favre, it now seems, is not going to be allowed to compete for the starting job in Green Bay and he doesn’t like that. He wants his old job back or to be moved to the Vikings, and since the Packers aren’t amenable to either situation, the two parties remain at an impasse.

Favre said today on ESPN.com that playing for the Packers, “probably isn’t going to work out.”

PFT.com, states that Mr Allen is nowhere to be found at Bucs camp and could be in Mississippi talking to Bus Cook. It was reported that Bruce Allen is out of town? During training camp? I know its alot of drama, why would they want Favre to restructure the deal? We are way below the cap? Lastly, it seems as if you’re always trying to dispose the “rumors” or knowledge as its presented rather than go with it. Why is that?

Getting Favre will not be a great thing for the bucs they have Garcia who is fine at Qb they have alot of other holes to fill being a Wr that can complment Gallaway not to mention learning Grudens Play book in three weeks would be hard. Not to mention Favre wants to play for the vikings not the BUcs.

First of all this is to “Mark” who posted before I did, Tampa does need Favre if they want to get back to the Super Bowl. You said it yourself, Garcia is “fine”, but Favre is “spectacular”. I’ve seen all 275 games Favre has played and yes, he has bad games, but trust me the good far outweighs the bad. As far as Tampa needing a receiver to compliment Galloway, I totally agree. The problem is, why didn’t management address that already? That’s an issue whether Favre is going there or not. I hope he does though, and beats my the Packers in Tampa. (I feel myself turning pewter!)

This is a sad, sad time in Wisconsin. The Packers management will regret this day. You are now the lucky ones to have Brett Favre. Enjoy and savor every minute. There is no one like him. I hope he takes the Bucs to the Super Bowl. How sweet that would be.
