The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.
The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.
The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.
The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.
Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.
The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

People People get this straight they are not going to trade Brett Favre to minn. What makes you think that they will do that? Once we have Brett we are not going to give him away just like that, there is no way. Bruce and The Glazers are doing the right thing to get Favre for sure and I think that it is still a great fit for Favre to be in Tampa and led us to the division title and the superbowl! Again no way in hell that they will trade Brett in Minn no way sorry to brust your bubble but not going to happen get over it hes coming to Tampa!

Brett is better on grass than in a dome! They allready said that the Packers will put in a clause that the Bucs cant trade him within the Division. So what are my new Tampa colors called anyway?

Too all the football fans in Tampa. If Brett is indeed traded to your team, bash him early because it will not last. Brett Favre will captivate the entire city in short order. Even at his advanced age, Brett Favre is the most talented QB that you have ever seen.

Packer’s management staff needs to do all be replaced. I am not supporting the Pack in any way. On ESPN.com there is a poll of the united states and world. And there was only one state that was in favor of Roger’s starting. So to the rest of you anti-Favre people, give it up you’ve lost.Go Favre! I will be wearing your number wherever you may go!

Buc fans, get real! Do you really think getting Bret here will not turn into just another silly chapter in this pathetic saga? I agree with a few cooler heads here, even if this debacle happens how long do you think it will be until # 4 has another news conference, crys and says he left his heart in Green Bay and can’t play for the Bucs? I’ll give him possibly 2 weeks at best. J Garcia is our QB..Gruden should get back to some form of sanity and realize that…respect him and give him more money.

If the Bucs make a bad decision and allow Brett to play for our City, this time next year Brett will be holding the future of the Bucs hostage with yet another decision to retire. Brett is too wishy-washy and self-centered to lead a new team and win. Hopefully the Bucs will get a clue and focus on the talent they have at QB rather than disrespect its players…like they did the all around best coash in the NFL, Tony Dungy.

I think it is great to have Brett come to Tampa! It is giving the NFL some excitement and he is a proven winner, and now he will be playing with a determination that will ignite the Bucs. He holds many records and is a work horse; he gives the Bucs new life and a real chance at making instant progress. LOL, it is silly to think that some faux Buc fans are saying that they will not support the Bucs anyone more if this trade happens, but you would have to be insane to pass on a 3-time MVP who still has the power and ability to bring Tampa success NOW!

It is a dark day in Green Bay. At least he didn’t go to Minnesota. And Buc fans, get ready for about 24 classic Favre “what the…?” interceptions. GO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Tampa fans…WAKE UP PEOPLE. Do you remember how great Joe Montana was in San Fran? How many super bowls did he win in K.C. Get real if you think a super bowl championship is in your future with Brett Favre. His glory days are long gone.

WE DO NOT NEED BRETT FAVRE HERE. WE DO NOT WANT BRETT FAVRE HERE. we dont NEED ANOTHER QB. we definitely dont need some whiny wimp like Favre here. I will NOT support the Bucs if they take him. Gruden and Allen just keep on dismantling a great team, and ruining any respect we gained under Tony Dungy. it will be the saddest day in Tampa if Favre comes here. If Favre comes here, you’ve seen my last Bucs attire, and i’m turning in my Bucs license plate for a Lightning one. I will instead watch the Colts, Giants, and Broncos this year. DO NOT DO THIS DISASTROUS THING TO OUR TEAM. Barber and Brooks dont deserve this. Garcia, Griese and Simms dont deserve this. Tampa doesnt deserve this.

Just think how great this will really work: the Bucs will get a great quarterback in Favre who will be an instant success, the Packers and the other NFC teams will be going through transistion years with neophytes, and the Bucs have a great chance of playing in the Super Bowl in their own city in 2009! It is a perfect scenario and the Week 4 game against Green Bay is going to be phenomenal as the Bucs destroy the Packers! It can’t get more perfect than this! GO BUCS!!!

Garcia and Farve are 38, Garcia missed games last year with injury where Farve is durable, the Bucs are not going to renew Garcia’s contract at the end of this year so even if Farve does retire after 1 year its an even swap. Farve not so much in a football sense is the better choice for the Bucs. Favre brings a national name, he makes Tampa a high priority for the flex-games, he puts Tampa on the map again. The fans will be buzzing about number 4 in pewter, hence more tickets sold - the purpose of a NFL franchise. More television exporsure - hence more money generated. The Glazers are not idiots - they own two of the biggest team franchises on this planet and will do what they must to make sure they make money.

Bucs fans you get the best QB around as a long time Packer Backer (since the 70’s) it kills me that for the last 16 years we have had a contending team in almost every year and that is no doubt due to Brett’s ability, now you will know what it is like to have a winner in your corner. Something many Packer fans did not have until Brett came to town. The Mgmt. in Green Bbay blew this one and their loss is your gain. Go Brett

This isn’t rocket science here. Brett Favre is arguably the best west coast qb of all time with the exception of Steve Young. Garcia made himself expendable when he spent the summer crying about a contract he signed only 1 year ago, skipping practice for a reunion, and hurting his leg in NONCONTACT drills. Garcia hasn’t played a full season since 2002 while Favre hasn’t missed a start in 16 years. All you people who are complaining that he’ll retire after only a year or two and he’s just a quick fix seem to forget he is only 3 months older than garcia. Garcia is the definition of a quick fix and is no more guaranteed to be playing after next year than favre.
Suggest removalPor (cory) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Garcia has shown throughout his career he only cares about money, consistently turning down good teams in free agency to go to whoever would pay him the most. Not to mention Garcia has been throwing ducks on the few offseason reps he has. If this move makes you stop supporting this team, you were never a real fan in the first place. Grow up
Suggest removalPor (Trent) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Also if you guys remember Bruce Allen said he would bring in the “Tiger Woods” of Football in the start of the offseason and Bret is that guy. Also Brett is one of those guys who can learn an offense very quickly and is less brittle than Garcia and has a better arm strength. Favre is also the the type of QB who can make everyone around him look good. I just cant wait to see favre throw a 50 yard bomb to Galloway for a TD

Thsi is really just what we need. Gruden is obviously a pro at rebuilding teams. Thats why he has to recruit all the elderly from around the leauge so that he can start to rebuild immediatley following the season. Why cant he build his own players instead of trying to steal a star?

How do you spell Disaster? Brett Favre in Tampa Bay! That makes 6 QB’s in camp. Brett, I hope you like playing in 90+ degree weather and learning a complex system, because Tampa is no Green Bay. Looks like a solid 6-10 season & NO playoffs!

I have to say I am laughing at the ignorance of some of you Buc fans. Brett has done more with less during the years he’s been in Green Bay. Brett is a first time ballot hall of famer and was 2nd in the MVP voting last year and you are ripping him because - what? Following this unfortunate saga in Green Bay I believe both sides have done themselves a great injustice, but I put more blame on the incompetence of GM Ted Thompson and Coach McCarthy. If you get Favre he’ll take you to the NFC championship game against Dallas. I’m a diehard Packer fan but this debacle has tarnished my view of this group (management). I’ll still be a Packer fan but if Brett goes to Tampa I’ll also be rooting for the Bucs also!
