The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.
The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.
The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.
The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.
Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.
The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

Howard old buddy old pal you speak volumes. I am so excited and delighted, words cannot express. FINALLY the Bucs have a shot at infamy. My fantasy of #4 in Super Bowl XLIII, Feb. 9th, 2009, in Ray Jay, tossing SB touch downs, is becoming a reality. Yes Matilda, there IS A GOD. No offense to Jeff Garcia. It is IRONIC to say the least that Garcia substituted in the last Pro Bowl for Farve. Garcia is hurt AGAIN. They’re both a couple of gray whiskers. Now here’s the line up I see on the depth chart: 1. Farve. 2. Garcia. 3. Griese. Judas Priest Madge! I’m like a little kid in a candy store, who just got a free shopping card. What price will the Bucs pay for #4? I don’t give a flying rats butt. Go Bucs!

Brett Favre is a great quarterback. He’s a legend and will draw more viewers to the Bucs games. Anyone can have a change of heart and Green Bay should have welcomed him back with open arms. Their loss will definitely be our gain! Go Bucs & Brett!

Only the immortal words of some hippy at Woodstock can express how I feel: ‘We must be in Heaven, Man?”- more shrewed moves by Allen.

Gruden has lost his mind! He has made some very bad decisions since the super bowl year. This would be his worst. Garcia is our QB. Farve has thrown more interseptions last year then garcia has thrown in his last several years. We dont need him/ we dont want him. Try giving Garcia a bit more dollars!

Congratulations on gaining one of the greatest players to ever don a NFL uniform.
The Packers organization has not learned from its mistakes, and have parted ways with another of its icons in a bad way. I guess they can blame this one on the Madden curse.

Just do not give up a starter, first, or second round pick. If they do, they better win the Super Bowl. If not Gruden and Allen show need to be sent packing.

Farve dont want to play for the bucs he will ask a old friend in gruden for a favor and ask for a trade to vikes, if vikes give a good package to bucs why not take it if ur da bucs? It would be the biggest slap in the face to GB and farve would have the last laugh.

Whatever happened to “he doesn’t fit into our plan”. I believe that is somewhat what Gruden said last week. I think this is a mistake. What Garcia must be thinking right about now. This shows no respect for him. Favre should have stayed retired. I’ve lost a lot of respect for him. I also want to respond to another “poster” here. Howard Tarnoff, Medway, MA said that he’s been a Packer fan since 1954 and if #4 goes to another team then his Packer flag will come down. Sir, you don’t sound like much of a fan to me. The team is bigger than one player.

I have been a bucs fan since 1976. I have seen stupid mistakes by the front office and head coaches. please think about this move. I believe Jeff is the best bet at QB. He has proven to the fans and BUCS that he is one of the best QB in the NFL. Finally he gets a chance to play and not worried about being 2nd string or trade, and now the BUCS are treating him like Brett is a better QB than him. I’m sorry Jeff, you will always be the starter in my eyes

Rogers was injured both times he backed up Favre? The week after Dallas they had to activate the 3rd string qb! I have the logo(G)tattood on my back! Die hard! I will follow him to what ever team he ends up with! & only root for the packers again when he is really done! Hopefully those idiots Ted,Murph & jack a** Mike will be gone like Randy Moss

The Packers entire managerial staff should be fired!!!!!! They have now made the Packers the laughing stock of the NFL. Let’s trade Brett and show all the Packer Fans who the real bosses are. Think it should be the REAL IDIOTS

Ladies and Gentlemen I told you this was all going to happen with in the matter of time. Anything can happen at this point. Again Brett will be an addition to this team. Reasoning being is that he has the arm where he can throw the football deep to whom ever he can fine open (Joey Galloway) and (Michael Clayton) if he can get to those guys deep and if they catch it it is done and over with. Look check this out. The saints have Shockey a deff upgrade on the TE position and he is a threat. So which means that if we get Favre is done and over with for the NFC and the AFC. We are going to the superbowl in 2009 in Tampa Bay the first team in history to play at there home town! enough said

I realize it is just one fan’s protest and the Bucs don’t care, but if Bret Farve becomes a Buc I will not watch another game nor will I purchase a cent of Buc gear until Gruden and Allen are sent packing. This would be second worst player decision in franchise history, right behing drafting Bo Jackson even though he said he would never play here.
The Bucs need a selfish, interception prone has-been even less than Green Bay. I plead to the football gods to send this crybaby to Minnesota and let him embarass himself up north, not here.
However, quarterback meetings with Farve and Griese should be quite a party.

Damn I can’t believe how many haters are in here. If you guys don’t want to watch Brett then thats tough for you all because I am a fan of his and I am glad that he is coming here. It is the right move and im sure other people that are not hating agrees with me too.

I have been a Bucs fan since 1998 (when I was 9 years old) and a staunch supporter of Gruden ever since we acquired him from Oakland, but if he pulls this trade off, I will lose all respect for the man and stop supporting the Buccaneers until Gruden is either fired or retires. I can’t and won’t support a mercenary coach. Ms. Ballinger and Mr. Ward, thank you both for having the right idea. Garcia poured all his heart and soul into the Buccaneers last year, and it would be the ultimate disrespect to cast him down now.
Suggest removalPor (Charles Phillips) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Suspicious, risky, tantalizing deal. What will the Bucs do when Favre demands a trade to Minnesota? Or decides his heart’s not in it anymore? What will Gruden’s sideline demeanor be when Favre starts throwing interceptions? Then again, what if Favre adapts to Gruden’s style and lights a fire under an offense that has never in franchise history been better than average? Fasten your seat belts, folks; the fun is just beginning.

Brad, real Packers fans are also Favre fans, this is an icon for this franchise, ofcourse we’re gonna boo rodgers in support of Brett when he’s treated the way he’s treated, secondly if you live in GB, why are you so happy that the Bucs get Favre…are you one of those crazy people that think that Favre should just stay retired and that claps everything ted Thompson does untill Rodgers starts throwing interceptions and you along with everybody else against Favre right now, start ripping ted Thompson appart and start calling for Favre…well it’s gonna be too late then

brett favre…really??? look back at his stats for 05-06 he was horrible had a miracle season last year which ended when he threw that horrible pick against the giants…at 38 you are looking at fools gold and diminishing returns lucky to be 8-8 this year

Mr. Knights86, you are not alone. I too will be disgusted if Allen and Gruden turn mercenary and will not give a second thought in ceasing my fanhood of the Buccaneers until they both retire if this trade happens. I salute you, Mr. Ward and Ms. Ballinger for remembering that honor and loyalty must always come before ticks on the win column.
