The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.
The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.
The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.
The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.
Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.
The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

Another crazy scenerio would be to trade Favre to the Vikings just to be A”” Holes. But if we trade Garcia to the vikings their gonna be nasty next year, but what do we care we only play them once but the packers just $hi++ed on themselves with trading farve that was retarded. But I still have to see the trade to belive it.

Ok, first of all, the Bucs wouldn’t use Favre and Garcia like Warner and Leinert! Favre is a STARTER. Why would he share time with Garcia??? Give me a break! Garcia may have made the pro bowl last year, but hello!!! Favre did too…and he finished 2nd in the MVP ballot. Oh yeah, and he’s got 3 MVP’s already. Garcia has never even sniffed one. The other thing is, those of you who say Garcia knows the playbook and Favre doesn’t, Garcia played ONE yr in this system. He’s missed camp for a reunion? and now he’s injured. Favre & Gruden will figure it out. Hell, your team might actually score some points!

Vitaliy in Mequon… You don’t need to fill me in on Packer history, I live in Green Bay moron, I’m aware of the loyalty of their fan base. True Packer fans are awesome, but my point was, the people booing Aaron Rodgers at practice, are not true Packer fans. If they were, they wouldn’t find joy whenever he threw an interception. They would want to show support for him, because true Packer fans will support the Packers no matter who is the qb.

I agree Dion I think this is the fifth year in a row that we had a different quarterback. Its like we have our own little curse. Garcia has to feel dumb about his (“John Gruden only likes to Date Not Marry Quarterbacks”) Because he put the crazy Jynx on himself. If we do get Farve he has to reconstruct his contract and i wonder how many years where gonna keep him for because i dont feel like playing musical retirement. But I still have to see this trade to belive it. (They should change the madden cover to a buccaneer jersey if he’s traded by tomorrow)

I am unsure about this whole thing too. Last season was a blast to watch, but Garcia has had a recent history of getting hurt, and is even hurt right now which makes Favre a more tantalizing morsel to me. Having parents that are Green Bay fans, I have grown up with Favre, so I’ll be excited with or without him on the Bucs. I am looking forward to a great season anyway. GOOOOO Bucs!

My first Packers game I was 5 years old. My family has held season tickets since the late sixties.
I am a huge Packer Fan and have a Greenbay Packer Room in my house complete with the 72 inch television. I am also a big fan of Brett. He is the best.
I will continue to be a loyal Packer fan and I will also continue to be a loyal Brett Favre fan. However, Myself and thousands of fans will make sure to make all the noise possible to see that Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson find themselves on the unemployment line at seasons end or sooner.
AS far as Aaron Rogers goes, he better step it up. He looks like an boy scout who needs a bath.
BTW Mike McCarthy, You are far from being the ideal coach.

This is unlikely to happen but what if we get Favre and Garcia ends up starting. Does anyone think thats possible. Or What if we use Garcia and Farve like the Cardinals use Kurt Warner an Matt Leinhart. (Because thats what imma do in Madden). If we do get farve his jersey might sell a million a week like the Carter 3. (lol) But this is no joking matter

I have been a Bucs fan all my life and if the reports of us trading for Brett Favre is true then I’m absolutely sickened. Garcia led us to the playoffs last year while posting one of the highest QB ratings in the NFL and deserves some loyalty from the Bucs FO for his effort. I know the NFL is a business but even businesses must have a human side, and trading for Brett Favre would be all business and no loyalty. The Bucs are not and should never turn mercenary. And it’s not even like Garcia played like Chris Simms last year.

I Still have see this to believe it. We’ll see on Wednsday. And If this trade does go down I cant wait to see what trade goes down with Garcia or something. Unless Garcia backs up. The Green Bay and Buc game has to be on National T.V if this trade goes down also. Wont it be crazy if the madden curse hits him when he’s playing the packers (Knocking on Wood.

Brad, you idiot, you obviously have no clue what you’re talking about when it comes to Packers fans, Packers fans are by far the most loyal fans in all of sports…they sell out packers scrimmage every year!!!...even this year (w/o favre). Lambeau Field has been sold out since 1960s that’s at least 25 years of loosing without Favre…our training camp practices get as many fans as buccaneers pre-season games…not real fans? when was the last time your (whatever the name of that stadium is) got sold out???...we love favre, but WE LOVE THE PACKERS EVEN MORE!!!

OK I’ll rephrase…when Chris Mortenson says it’s official I’ll believe it…ESPNews is just saying The Tribune is reporting it

Not only do the Bucs get Favre, but they get the pathetic fans that call themselves Green Bay fans, yet are unable to see past Brett Favre. All of the fans out there that are changing their support based on Favre were not real Green Bay fans to begin with. I hope all of the losers that are booing Aaron Rodgers at practice become Bucs fans too, and stop showing the ignorance of being brainwashed by an athlete who’s ego is out of control.

Good luck with Favre. I’ve been a Pack fan for years. Favre will make great plays, but he’s also the all-time INT leader for good reason. You’ll never win in the post-season with him and you’ll probably also lose a good WR because he strings them out over the middle.
At least Garcia plays within his limits.

Congrats to Tampa. On behalf of the entire state of Wisconsin, we wish you and Brett the best. You’re getting the great leader, a phenomenal athlete and a gem of a human being.
To the fans of the Bucs: take care of our boy! We’ll all be cheering for him (and you). Thanks Brett! We’ll never forget you. I’ll be buying my number 4 jersey as soon as it’s official. Go Bucs!

Now if we can only get Lynn Swann and Franco Harris, we’ll win a super bowl.

I’m a life long Pack Fan (born and raised) and am absolutely sickened by Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy’s mis-handling of this whole thing. Brett should be wearing Green and Gold tomorrow and the future, but I will definitely be rooting for him no matter where he lands. Never been a Bucs fan, but will be a convert just to watch Brett play!! Good luck to the Bucs! Go Brett!! We will always love you up here!

To all that say enough is enough with the constant new QB situation in Tampa, i say i 100% agree with you. Having said that, there is no way that any realistic franchise QB is coming in here in at least 1, and with the extension Garcia wants, maybe 2 more years. Why not experience those years with a QB who makes our team definitely better right now. I agree with the move and hope they do Garcia right, but the Bucs with Favre should have Tampa Bay feeling they can go helmet to helmet with anyone in the NFC. Amazing news!
Posted by Paul, Houston, TX on 08/06 at 12:27 AM
Ok a few things to keep in mind -
1. I’ll believe this when I see this on ESPN.com
2. Jeff Garcia played well last year, but let’s be realistic…he was an upgrade over Chris Simms and Bruce Gradkowski and that’s not really a huge leap..
3. There may be some intital awkwardness with players who were behind Garcia but after Farve hits Galloway for a 65 yard TD on the fly it will all be forgotten

I am a Florida native who has lived in Wisconsin for 30 years and have converted to being a Green Bay fan. However, if Brett gets traded to the Bucs I can again root for my home state.
Wisconsin will miss Brett and his family.
Shame on the Packer management this was handled all wrong.
