Favre On Verge Of Joining Bucs

Posted Aug 6, 2008 by Ira Kaufman

Updated Aug 6, 2008 at 07:44 AM

The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.

The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.

The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.

The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.

Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.

The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

My first Packers game I was 5 years old. My family has held season tickets since the late sixties.
I am a huge Packer Fan and have a Greenbay Packer Room in my house complete with the 72 inch television. I am also a big fan of Brett. He is the best.
I will continue to be a loyal Packer fan and I will also continue to be a loyal Brett Favre fan. However, Myself and thousands of fans will make sure to make all the noise possible to see that Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson find themselves on the unemployment line at seasons end or sooner.
AS far as Aaron Rogers goes, he better step it up. He looks like an boy scout who needs a bath.
BTW Mike McCarthy, You are far from being the ideal coach.

I am unsure about this whole thing too. Last season was a blast to watch, but Garcia has had a recent history of getting hurt, and is even hurt right now which makes Favre a more tantalizing morsel to me. Having parents that are Green Bay fans, I have grown up with Favre, so I’ll be excited with or without him on the Bucs. I am looking forward to a great season anyway. GOOOOO Bucs!

I agree Dion I think this is the fifth year in a row that we had a different quarterback. Its like we have our own little curse. Garcia has to feel dumb about his (“John Gruden only likes to Date Not Marry Quarterbacks”) Because he put the crazy Jynx on himself. If we do get Farve he has to reconstruct his contract and i wonder how many years where gonna keep him for because i dont feel like playing musical retirement. But I still have to see this trade to belive it. (They should change the madden cover to a buccaneer jersey if he’s traded by tomorrow)

Vitaliy in Mequon… You don’t need to fill me in on Packer history, I live in Green Bay moron, I’m aware of the loyalty of their fan base.  True Packer fans are awesome, but my point was, the people booing Aaron Rodgers at practice, are not true Packer fans.  If they were, they wouldn’t find joy whenever he threw an interception.  They would want to show support for him, because true Packer fans will support the Packers no matter who is the qb.

Ok, first of all, the Bucs wouldn’t use Favre and Garcia like Warner and Leinert! Favre is a STARTER. Why would he share time with Garcia??? Give me a break! Garcia may have made the pro bowl last year, but hello!!! Favre did too…and he finished 2nd in the MVP ballot. Oh yeah, and he’s got 3 MVP’s already. Garcia has never even sniffed one. The other thing is, those of you who say Garcia knows the playbook and Favre doesn’t, Garcia played ONE yr in this system. He’s missed camp for a reunion? and now he’s injured. Favre & Gruden will figure it out. Hell, your team might actually score some points!

Another crazy scenerio would be to trade Favre to the Vikings just to be A”” Holes. But if we trade Garcia to the vikings their gonna be nasty next year, but what do we care we only play them once but the packers just $hi++ed on themselves with trading farve that was retarded. But I still have to see the trade to belive it.

I am a Florida native who has lived in Wisconsin for 30 years and have converted to being a Green Bay fan.  However, if Brett gets traded to the Bucs I can again root for my home state.
Wisconsin will miss Brett and his family.
Shame on the Packer management this was handled all wrong.

Dave Your talking like you just lost your starting Quarterback or something. I said that it was uinlikely to happen. Dont take your anger out on our blog because you have a guy named Aaron starting at Quarterback for you.  Now go in your room and get ready for a 4-12 season while your watching the Bucs in the playoffs (Regardless of the QB).

( I just like to scramble a lot in madden and Garcia’s faster thats the only reason I said that)

If Brett wanted to be the GB qb, he should not have retired. He wasn’t forced , and we have been dealing with that for the last 4 years. This is BRETTS’ fault NOT PACKERS MGNT !! The Pack were going to bring him back right after he retired , only to have him back out and retire again.

the bucs host the superbowl in 2009, and the glazers are desperate for a superbowl, they have to at least the superbowl in their home park, they need to make it there, now i know why they signed turds like jerramy,  an re-signed graham, they need the superbowl at home, since the glazers love throwing money and making it rain at MAN U, they gotta make it rain on the bucs.

p.s. when is mike pittman’s wife gonna do more photo shoots?

LIfelong Packer fan, and a real fan at that, but I will cheer for Green Bay to lose every game this season as punishment for the damage they have done to this franchise. Just like I am a loyal Republican but think losing is good for them because maybe it will cause them to kick out some of the corrupt dead wood in the party, the Packers need to clean house including McCarthy, Thompson and the newest idiot in the trio, Mark Murphy. After all Favre has done to restore the Green Bay franchise to respectability, he simply deserved better than this.

Was he indecisive? Yes. Has he earned the right for a do-over? Absolutely.

Where do I buy a #4 Bucs jersey for my son?

This “mindset” thing is a joke, a scam, and a cover up for some of the cruelest treatment, greatest mismanagement, and incompetence in dealing with perhaps one of the best players in the history of the Packers.  I would call for the immediate firing of Mark Murphy and Ted Thompson and tell Mike McCarthy to stick to football coaching not be the Head Psychologist.  I think such firings would change Brett’s “mindset” dramatically and give him the indication the organization is willing to put all of this in the rear view mirror.  I would still like to see Brett quarterback the Packers not some other team this year.  If he’s going to play then let him play for the Packers.

Brett Favre is a family member and we all know he just wants to play in Green Bay.  Removing this family member from our team,is too heart breaking.I don’t think I have enough tears. I loose sleep over this. If the Packers office doesn’t make this right by embracing Favre with warmth he deserves, and we loose him.I don’t know how I could live through that. Maybe Brett wants to give one last try because he feels it is what his father would have wanted him to do.He really believes in the team. Why can’t the Packers front office believe in him like so many of us do.Shake his hand, hand him a helmet, smack him on the #####,and say give er’ hell!  I will always be a Packer Fan. I hope I don’t have to wish Favre good luck anywhere else.

Stop your crying fellow buc fans, Remember it’s Brett “freckin” Farve!!!Players don’t play this game to lose in the first round in the playoffs. In the words of Herm Edwards, ” You play to the win the game.”, And winning the game would be winning the SuperBowl in Tampa this year. Brett Farve give us the best chance to do that. And don’t give me this crap about loyalty to Garcia, anytime you can “upgrade” a position, you do it! What about loyalty to the other 52 men on the roster, what about loyalty to them? It’s about championships people, not playoff appearances. Go Bucs!!!

I’ve been a Packer fan for over 30 years.  I have been a die-hard, Packer zealot who thinks of nothing BUT the Pack during football season. My house was decorated mostly in Packer stuff.  Today I took all the pennants and posters off the wall, took the bumper stickers off the car, and put all of paraphenelia into storage.  Tomorrow, if this report turns out to be true, I am going shopping for Buccaneer T-shirts.  I will be a fan of them until Thompson leaves the Packers.  I hate him too much to root for the packers anymore (just until he’s gone, of course).

Continued…

I hope Garcia goes to Min. because that would make them a KILLER team, and GB would have no hope in hell of winning the division

The Packers are ranked 3rd in the power rankings… The Bucs 8th. With Favre switching places, I think the Bucs gain a few slots and the Pack drop a few… which puts them both at 5 or 6. BUT… The Bucs have a much easier schedule.  I can see Favre and the Bucs going deep into the playoffs, maybe all the way to the Super Bowl (held IN Tampa!).  The Vikings and Cowboys stand in the way… but it’s a possibility.

Go Bucs!

Fire Ted Thompson!

I’m actually a little excited to be cheering on a new team for a year or two.

You sicken me Brian. It would be wrong to bring in Favre now to replace Garcia just as it would have been wrong if the Panthers had chosen not to suspend Smith for 2 games for breaking Lucas’ nose. It would dishonor the spirit of fair play. The Buccaneers are not, I repeat the Buccaneers ARE NOT MERCENARIES. I swear if we do bring in Brett Favre, I’m going to stop being a Bucs fan for the next 2 years, my fanhood of them for the past 10 years be damned. Even if we end up winning the Super Bowl with Favre on the team, it would be a victory gained through mercenary actions, and half the fanbase would never enjoy it.

Ooops…

I was looking at old, outdated, power rankings.  The Packers and Bucs are both a lot further down than I thought… and I once again forgot about the Giants as a team to beat in the NFC.

Still, I like the Bucs chances.

And if Garcia goes to the Vikes… I think things look a LOT gloomier for the Pack than they would have ever thought.

The two idiots who responded by saying our stadium dosen’t sell out, should know that there is a 80,000 person waiting list to buy tickets, also the last time I looked the person who found the color pewter unpleasent should be very happy with my grandson’s dirty diaper as it is the same color of the packs yellow.

I recall my first Packers game on the radio in our living room in Milwaukee in 1954 and have been a fan since.  I got lucky in 77 and got my season tickets.  We moved to Massachusetts in 89 and have flown a Packer Flag 7 days a week, 24 hours a day since.  I turned my tickets over to my cousin in 99 when they changed the rules to allow that.

My flag comes down the min #4 signs with another team.  I would hope TB kicks GB’s a** when they play, where can I buy a ticket and a Buc’s Flag?
