Favre On Verge Of Joining Bucs

Posted Aug 6, 2008 by Ira Kaufman

Updated Aug 6, 2008 at 07:44 AM

The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.

The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.

The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.

The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.

Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.

The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

Troy (and others)
First of all, (and I say this respectfully)you are missing the point.  Not Ted. T., not coach Mike, not any intelligent fan, has once said that Rodgers is a better Q.B. than #4 or that A.R. gives us a better chance at winning this year..that’s not the issue.  #4 has cost us draft picks by leading us to believe he was finished playing, he has created uncertainty amongst the entire organization and held the team hostage for four months of every year the last few seasons.  Favre is still a great Q.B. and Bucs would be lucky to get him; it’s simply time for G.B. to start moving in a direction that has more stability in the future.

The Bucs don’t need receivers for Favre. With like 280 (record) interceptions, it’s clear he doesn’t utilize them. He just likes to throw and doesn’t care where it goes. Doesn’t he also own the pass attempts record too ? *rolls her eyes*

Hey cali, if this happens, I’m driving to New Orleans to the Game, with a Red #4 sprayed on my Chest. I may need a Medivac, but I’m going. I have 2 tickets waiting right now on the 30 yd line. A little pricey, but at least I’ll have 2 other Buc fans with me. Favre will make the Saints secondary look good & bad all in the same game. This will be a rollercoaster of a season….if we have any players left.

michael malcheski-

You are an idot, and obviously know nothing about the great Packers franchise and it’s players.  Bart can not only hold his own with Brett, but is a class act and completely devoted to the Packers franchise. I know how it feels to get a great player, Example: CC Sabathia traded to the brewers, but that doesn’t mean a championship.  Get real and stop thinking with your emotions. Tampa will be better, but you also get all the baggage with him. For years Favre has created a media circus in GB, now it’s all yours.  Above all I’m loyal to the team and not just a player. Good luck Tampa and I hope Favre does well for you.

dbPacker in Milwaukee:

Well said…much like I mentioned earlier in the thread, we will all miss #4, but none of the PACKER fans (not favre fans) will miss the b.s….that goes with him.  Regardless of what people say in other NFL markets, those that are local know what a media whore he has turned into the last few years.

I guess I’ll finally have to buy a Bucs #4 jersey!
Brett was treated unfairly by Ted Thompson since the first day Thompson came to GB.
I hope the Bucs trade for Brett and he leads them to the SB.
I would LOVE to see Brett and the Bucs whoop the Packers in the NFC championship game and proceed to the SB.
Best of luck, we love Brett!

Hey Pack Fans, no offense but Buc Fans don’t care about the what’s, why’s & how’s of the Pack. All we care about is #4 & his guns. Bart Starr, Ted Thomson, McCarthy, 20 below 0…nobody cares. 75 degrees & flip flops. Move to Tampa. Come on down guys. Share your tailgate recipes. Have a Beast on the House or a Bud.

Favre a media whore?????
All I’ve ever seen him do is the press conferences that the Packers obligated to and the national commercials Brett has done.
Most of the “fans” here like JJ in Oshkosh have heads full of cheese and beer so take that into consideration when reading their posts. Not to mention the toxic fumes from the cow $hit that lingers over areas like Oshkosh!

I’ve been a Packers fan since the days of Bart Starr, Jim Taylor, Max McGee and Vince Lombardi, etc.  I’didn’t become a Packers fan because of Brett Farve. It’s clear that the great majority of Packers (team) fans want Farve to go.  He’s simply worn out his welcome. The Brett Farve (player)fans are bitter because they’re Brett Farve fans and not Packers fans.  My advice to them is get off, and stay off the Packers bandwagon.

let me interject here again. Garcia has been great for tampa although we lost the playoff game. The real game difference in Favre and Garcia is that     Garcia is more mobiel. However he does not command the same respect from defenders on the field that Favre does. Simply because Favre is a risk taker and that is how you become great. Yes has has a lot of int’s. That just means that he is willing to put it all on the line. If you are afraid to be great you never will be. And Afriad is something Favre is not. I think as Bucs Fans we have forgotten the days of seeing him twice a season. And last season was one of his best yet.

Garcia has his strengths being mobile, and great game manager and puts himself out-there. Garcia, Brad Johnson have their differences and are both great Brad has a ring and better Qb rating over his career. The point is none of these guys were big risk takers they manage the game and get wins. However i look and just managing the game is the offensive equivalent to the prevent defense.

At the end of the day when it’s fourth down and long 15 seconds left in the game and your down by 6 who do you want behind center?

Steve sorry to say but I don’t think the Pack put him up to his own press conference a month after the SB last year only to inform the football world he hadn’t decided on his future yet. You better believe he’s a damn media whore.

Bucs Fans:
“IF” you get him, enjoy the ride; up or down, it will be fun!!  Again, Brett is a great Q.B. and will be fun to have as part of your community.  He and his wife Deanna are wonderful ambassadors of the game and are sure to be active members of the Tampa-area community.  Bring you kleenex to the games; you will be shedding both tears of joy and tears of pain.
We will miss Brett, but sometimes it’s just time to get out and “start dating again”..smile  Go Pack!!!!
Last post…gotta go

The Packers didn’t put him up to that March press conference?
They asked for an answer b4 the draft, that sounds like they put him up to it to me.
What would you know about the situation out in NJ anyway?
Go Bucs!
Go Brett!
I’m a Packer fan but I don’t pledge blind allegiance to a franchise that is not doing what’s best for the team to win. Instead they are doing what is best for Ted Thompson and his “legacy” which includes wasting a top 20 pick on Justin Harrell two years ago when they could’ve gotten the stiff in the third round or later!

You make absolutely no sense, so take your weak sauce somewhere else. You must be a buckeyes fan, which would explain your lack of intelligence.
