Favre On Verge Of Joining Bucs

Posted Aug 6, 2008 by Ira Kaufman

Updated Aug 6, 2008 at 07:44 AM

The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.

The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.

The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.

The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.

Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.

The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

I think what people aren’t understanding with this whole situation is that the Pack is one of the youngest teams in the NFL..regardless of the “play for this year” mentality I know everyone will reference, the Pack is obligated to plan for the future. Allowing Brett back will bring the same crap-dance after next year.  Give Aaron the ball and the experience needed to be successful in the years to come.
Thank you for the memories Brett, but you made your bed…sleep in it!!  For years you made us believe you would play for free, ANYWHERE, as long as you could play; now you are singing a different song.  Trust me, fellow football fans, when I tell you that the vast majority of Packer fans (not FAVRE fans)are happy to be moving on.

Yeah, we are happy Packer fans are moving on because you are going from a Super Bowe contender to the toliet bowl this year with Aaron Rogers and allowing the Bucs to take your Hall of Fame QB and win the first ever NFL championship in their own city this year!  Thank you Packer head office!

joeberard. The Jets offensive line is as follows:

LT-D’Brickashaw Ferguson
LG-Alan Faneca(best FA O-lineman in ‘08)
C-Nick Mangold(future Pro Bowler)
RT-Brandon Moore
RG-Damien Woody(got him from NE…....need I say more?)

Why wouldn’t Brett want to play behind that O-line?

It’s people like you that keep this world from truly becoming united as one race, HUMAN.

Garcia is a fantastic decision maker and I would be pissed if I was a fan. 28 TDs to 4 INT’s. With brett you will be looking at about the same # of TD’s give or take a few. The INTs onthe other hand, just wait until Brett feels some phantom pressure, rolls out of the pocket closes his eyes and hucks it downfield into double coverage. I know optimism is running high in TB right now but Breet needs perfect surrounds and how bad of a galre will Chucky have after brett throws that first INT on 2nd and 8…

to chaz in tampa, thanks for being the voice of reason. i just can stand fans bashing a qb that lifted a team from the basement of the nfc to champions (walter,Jimmy newton) all you packer fan-brett bashers should take a lambeau leap off a bridge…..

Hey Patricia, the only thing funnier than Favre not being as agile as Garcia is the Thought of the Bucs’ line breaking down. That ain’t gonna happen. Now they’ll really have a reason to block. Favre is healthy & running well. This will be like semi retirement for Favre. He can hand the ball off every play and get at least 5 yds. Passing will be optional. He and Chucky are gonna go at it like cats & dogs. Is Favre the one who can finally tame Chucky? I doubt it.

Brett Farve still has a couple good seasons in him, and congratulations to Tampa if you land him. However, please make note that you will likely have to enlarge your locker room door to allow his head to fit thru.  As for those of us up here, Brett proved, last season,  he can’t play in cold weather any more.  Tampa or a dome would suit him fine.

To JJ,

You might be happy now, but you WILL be singing a different tune when the packers miss the playoffs. I will bet that Rodgers doesn’t make the whole season. He either gets benched or hurt.
Brian Brohm will be a better Pro QB that Rodgers. When was the last time a Univ of California QB succeeded in the NFL? Much less one coached by Tedford?

I have to say having a sure fire first ballot hall of famer will be nice. You have to look at this as a whole.  The Bucs did not even sell out there playoff game this past season.  With brett it is an upgrade as well as selling tickets.  So Brett is not only wanted by Gruden but also by the Glazer family.  Imagine the jersey sells as well as the attendance. The only thing i wory about is team chemistry. However Brett is the classic Locker romm guy. I beleive this is the best choice. Besides when is the last time a Bucs starting QB finished the season. The Greatest Iron man ever to play will change that. GO BUCS

Good call Spice. Just got word the Glazers are going to build a giant Dome from Dale Mabry over Raymond James to the Fields at 1 Buc Place. They will install a 10 Billion Ton Chiller & 20 Story Cooling Tower to Make Brett feel comfortable. Good news to all those that sit on the East Side of the Stadium, the Sun will no longer Beam down on you. Go Bucs!!!

BigBucFan, wow! Some truth there no doubt! I, oddly enough agree with you there. This is the NFL though and if there are any injuries to one or more of your backs it may get a bit hairy…The one thing Brett can do is sling it and if the running game is producing watch out for the PAP over the top all day!

What a great fit for the bucs.  to get a future HOF’er who still has a lot to contribute could easily lead the team to the super bowl this year.  Packer loss is Bucs gain.  Lucky you.

Starr couldnt hold a candle to “Brett”. Starr used to trip on his shoelaces and Zeke would have to clean-up the mess—packers unsung hero zeke bratkowski (sp?) someone who knew       the"Golden boy”????? Nitsche, willie wood, UGHH dave robinson—etc lombardi controlled the media and just about all green bay.. today that would not “wash” and many of the former packers today would be sent “packing” (morals, need i say more?)deacon

In Halloween, the doctor tells the sherrif that death has come to his little town. Well let me say that drama has come to yours. Good luck with his royal pain in the patooty. All I can say is for your sakes, I hope he lives up to all HE thinks he’s worth. Maybe his “emotional wounds” will heal in Tampa. What a joke.

SrAGrant, you’re a fool. I was at that game & every seat was filled, and at least 25% of them with Giants Fans. You gotta give credit where it’s do. Those Giant Fans rock. They were loud & proud & well behaved even for New Yorkers. Well except for a couple guys from the Bronx.

I know you Buc fans are getting excited about Favre and you should be, but (to a few of you) don’t think this is your ticket to an NFC championship win. Just keep in mind, the Packers were better than the Bucs when we played them last, and we wupped Favre and his team’s butt, coming back from something like a 2 touchdown lead that they had. The Bucs better be looking for some WRs so Brett can be useful and worth the 12 million. The O line better protect him too; you wouldn’t want him to break his hip during game 1. Wow, this means Favre isn’t going to have to wait until Nov. 24th to meet the best defensive front 7 in the NFC south. This is going to be fun.

the jets suck john, maybe the jets will have a tv on the golf course during the playoffs so they can watch a real team play.
