The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.
The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.
The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.
The Packers, unwilling to deal the 3-time league MVP to an NFC North rival, view the Bucs as a compromise in this ugly impasse. The Bucs view Favre as an upgrade on QB Jeff Garcia, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007 while leading Tampa Bay to an NFC South title.
Once it became clear to Favre that he wasn’t welcome back in Green Bay, he became more flexible in terms of accepting a trade to clubs outside the division. The Bucs have been interested in Favre since last month, when he announced he wanted to play again.
The Bucs could make the trade announcement official by Wednesday, but Favre will have little time to learn Coach Jon Gruden’s complex system because the Bucs open the regular season Sept. 7 at division rival New Orleans.

I am a huge Pack fan, glad to see this whole soap opera is finally going to end. I will tell you it seems the state of wisconsin is finally starting to side with the Packers management. Rodgers is good, he can be real good. It’s helped him greatly to be able to learn from Favre for 4 yrs. you guys are going to either love or hate Favre. If he plays like he did last year, you’ll think he’s the greatest thing in florida next to Steve Stamkos. If not, well, you won’t like him so much. But You are geting a great player. Congratualtions!

Everyone hating on Farve think about this: You have 2 offensive weapons who are former Seahawks in Galloway and Stevens, both coached by Holmgren who molded Farve into the great QB he is. Combined with his relationship with Coach Gruden, there is great potential for your team if they all remain healthy. Embrace this as the blessing it is. If it materializes that is. Good Luck Bucs!!

Farve was over rated and never good as Bart Starr was. Now he can go to Tampa and throw more intercepcions. Packers all the way this year with Aron Rogers! Go Pack go!

The city of Tampa Bay is going to win the Triple Crown: Favre will lift the Lomabardi trophy (LOL) in Tampa in February 09, Joe Maddon will lift the World Series Chanpionship this fall, and Barry Melrose will salute the fans at St Pete Times Forum by lifting the Stanley Cup next June. Get ready for a magical year of sports in Tampa!

Tampa you can have him. We love Brett as a football player but there is just way too much baggage these days. We are all glad to see this issue being resolved. This football town can ow get back to, well, football.

As a resident of St. Pete Tampa area of 24 years I have seen a lot of buc ball. Brett gives them the best chance to win now! having him would be awesome and to say we dont have the recievers that greenbay has is ludacris we have better the only reason those recievers did good in green bay was because of Brett. look at what Javon Walker was in green bay and what he is now. Brett is the best chance to compete now and the best chance of getting to another bowl. I mean look at carolina and the saints they are chalked full of talent and brett would at the very least level the field.

I can only say that if Brett does become a Buc, I’ll become a Buc fan. As a rabid footbal fan, #4 has given me more exciting moments (and yes some heartbreak too) than ANY player in my lifetime.
If the trade does happen, I think you will see the best of Brett Favre. I am excited for Brett. I’m excited for Tampa Bay. And I’m excited for ME!

If and when you get Brett I can only say you will get every dollar you pay for. Brett will take you back to the early days where players played the game because they loved it and not for the money, otherwise he would be sitting in MS with $25 mil. dollars fishing and riding his tractor. He doesn’t know fear and is a great motivator of those around him. The only bashing I have seen are the GB fans on here that are pissed off he is leaving. He has something to prove and will whereever he lands.

I can’t believe all this talk about Brett Favre! What does he have that Jeff Garcia doesn’t? I agree they are both excellent QB’s. But why not stick with the one that you already know will work hard and get the job done? That man is Jeff Garcia! He get’s my vote!

Lifelong Packer fan, lived in Valrico, but grew up here. Saw my first NFL game in ‘93 - Pack/Bucs.
Love Favre, always have been a Bucs fan, but will buy the Sunday Ticket just so I can watch him in Pewter. If he aint’ gonna be here in GB, I can’t think of a better place to go.

Good luck is all I have to say to the Bucs fans.
Suggest removalI have been a Packer fan for over 30 years. I have been a Favre fan for over half of those. He has become a selfish, arrogant, spoiled little boy. I for one am happy to have him gone so we can get on with our season. I will never forgive him for what he has done to our franchise up here. I hope you have better luck with him.

To all you Wisconsin fans dissing Brett - how can you turn your back on him after all the good years he gave you and all the exciting games. Shame on you. Aaron is going to fall flat on his face. The fans will let the three idiots in green bay know exactly how they feel opening day. The packers will end up maybe if they are lucky with one or two wins with Rodgers. He was 7 for 20 in the scrimmage. do the math people If Brett becomes a Buc, I will be the first to order a shirt with Brett’s new number on it and wear it proudly. WE WILL MISS YOU BRETT.

The only emotion I feel after hearing this news is a stronger one to get rid of Gruden. Favre, as great as his career has been, is NOT an updgrade over Garcia; he will NOT put the Bucs over the top (especially with our WRs); and does nothing for the future of the QB position in TB. At what point do we get serious about our QB situation and start grooming someone for the future? This is patently absurd; Gruden needs to go. Seriously, people, huge Buc fan here, but if you have delusions of grandeur over last season, you’re seriously mistaken. We’re a seriously flawed team in a weak conference. This does nothing for us.
Suggest removalPor (Luke Gillespie) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
How about this: Trade him to Tampa, Tampa then trades him to Minnesota. Tampa receives a #1 pick from Vikes, keeps their Garcia (a good fit) and Brett gives GB his #1 middle finger to the Tompson on his way out of the Viking tunnel for the opener…
Please tell me Mr. Gruden you’ve thought about this…
Suggest removalPor (Phil Bengtson) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
You can have him. If Coach McCarthy thinks that a returning 16 year legend, arguably the best Packer ever (up until recently) has such an attitude problem that his skills are outweighed by his big stupid head, then good riddance.
I thought Favre was different. Turns out he’s just another jerkoff like T.O. and Moss.

Por (Scott heitland) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
To the Buc fans who say Bret will not help because you have no recievers. The packers have never had a great reciever the whole time he has been there. His arm has made some good recievers look better than they were. On the down side you also get the interceptions. But he a better that Garcia.

Packer fans that are ripping on Brett Favre should be ashamed of themselves! John Geiger, you are a moron! You will never forgive Brett Favre for what he has done to your franchise? He has done more for that franchise than any Packer ever. He is the ONLY reason why the Packers have been on national TV so much over the years.
Suggest removalYou all are just like Red Sox fan, when a player leaves they hate them.
I am a huge Jeff Garcia fan and don’t want Favre to come, but don’t hate on the best Packer ever.

If Favre stays with the Bucs and does not become a Vike, it won’t be long until he will be on nat’l tv “Crying and Whinning” about something!! That may be the reason that GB got rid of him. I hope that the Bucs do not give up their 1st or 2nd round pick for him and mortgage our future QB needs, after all, he did not want to come to the Bucs!!! If he is injured soon, it will be a very expensive venture for the Bucs!!!

For you that say Farve is the best Packer player ever, you are way wrong. He’s lucky if he’s in the top ten. Farve won one world championship. Big deal. Bart Starr won five. So there!
