ST. PETERSBURG A fan seated about eight rows behind the first-base dugout was taken off on a stretcher after being injured by part of a broken bat during the sixth inning of tonight’s Rays-Yankees game.
The barrel of the bat went into the stands on a single by Robinson Cano, striking an adult male fan in the forehead. Medical personnel tended to the fan for several minutes, applying what looked like an icepack and a neck brace.
The Rays provided no additional information, saying they couldn’t release the fan’s name at this time.
