TAMPA—Like most teams after a bitter loss, the Atlanta Falcons blame themselves.
The Falcons offered the Bucs grudging credit after Sunday’s 16-13 loss, but tended to dwell on their own mistakes as Tampa Bay beat Atlanta for the first time since 2008.
“It was a good fight, but we put ourselves in a bad position,’’ said Atlanta’s best pass rusher, defensive end John Abraham. “Turnovers, penalties, things we usually don’t do. We’re a good team, but we’re not playing like it right now.’‘
While the Bucs and Saints are tied atop the NFC South at 2-1, the Falcons slipped to 1-2.
“Any loss hurts, but losing to them is even worse,’’ Abraham said. “We’ve been pretty good against Tampa, but we dug ourselves a hole. We needed to get off the field. The D-line needed to get to the quarterback.’‘
Josh Freeman was not sacked and left tackle Donald Penn limited Abraham to one tackle and one quarterback hit.
“The whole game to me was frustrating,’’ said Abraham, who was also neutralized by right tackle Jeremy Trueblood. “Turnovers, penalties. I was pretty much ineffective. We’ve got to get our confidence level back.’‘

The Falcons are a Vick concussion away from being 0-3… and they didn’t even cause the concussion.
