The FACA District 15 (Hillsborough County) area coaches convened Wednesday night to select this year’s All-District 15 team and the top two teams and arguably the top player in the county are not represented on the roster.

See if you can spot the omissions? Here’s a hint. The top two teams squared off last week and the top player is on an undefeated team playing for the 3A-5 district title Friday night.

Offense
Bennie Coney, Plant City; Robert Davis, Carrollwood Day; Anthony Brown, Hillsborough; Brandon Holloway, Alonso; Chris Murray, King; Travis Johnson, Jesuit; Jarrod Smith, Carrollwood Day; Robert Asphall, Leto; Robert Gibbons, Jesuit; Corey Martinez, Tampa Catholic; Kilu Fontaine, Tampa Bay Tech; Dalton Gilson, Gaither; Deuce Gruden, Carrollwood Day

Defense
Tyriq McCord, Jefferson; Earl Moore, Hillsborough; Jordan Sherit, Hillsborough; Taylor Timmons, Tampa Catholic; Josh Scarberry, Gaither; Marcus Neuman, Alonso; Darrin Morris, Spoto; Eddie Pastrana, Gaither; Armaud Herndon, Hillsborough; William Watson, Jefferson; Jordan Davis, Alonso; Andrew Bagli, Alonso; Eric Moate, Spoto

Davis was selected as the District 15 MVP. In addition to the previous players mentioned, Evan Young, Jesuit, Michael Scheerhorn, Tampa Catholic, Zach Travis, King, Isaac Edwards, Jesuit and Daniel Hamilton, Cambridge were nominated for the senior-only FACA All-Star Game in Sebring. Hillsborough head coach Earl Garcia was nominated as an All-Star coach.

Tampa Bay Tech’s Lamarq Caldwell (4.2 weighted GPA), Gaither’s Mikhail Reece (5.79 weighted GPA) and Gruden (3.8 weighted GPA) were nominated for the FACA All-Academic Team.

Does anyone have any idea where we might be able to find a sports reporter?  You know, someone that might find out how the voting process works and educate us a little.  I’ve read on other sites that the coaches have to be present at the FACA meeting when the voting takes place and, if not, kids from their teams are ineligible.  Is this true?  Why even have the meeting in the middle of a game week.  Also, there’s two games left in the regular season (20% of the season), plus the playoffs.  Why not wait until after the season (at least the regular season) to have the meeting and vote?  C’mon, tbo sports writers—give us some answers!

By the way, in answer to the question: Plant, Armwood and Nelson Agholor.
