Two former Hillsborough County football players this week were recognized for their contributions at the next level.

Former Armwood receiver Matt Brevi, now at sophomore Stony Brook, was named the Big South Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week, while former Gaither tailback Jarvis Giles, now a freshman at the University of South Carolina, was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week.

Brevi (pictured) totaled 140 yards on three kickoff returns in the Seawolves’ 21-20 win over Brown. Brevi, who had returns of 59, 36 and 51 yards, became just the second player in Big South Conference history to have two kickoff returns of 50-plus yards in the same game. Brevi also had a good night on offense. He led the team with five catches for 76 yards, including three receptions on the Seawolves’ game-winning touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.

It is the second consecutive week a former Armwood player earned the Big South Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week award. Last week, former Armwood kicker Wesley Skiffington, a redshirt freshman at Stony Brook, earned the honor for his performance against Colgate.

Meanwhile, Giles put together his first career 100-yard rushing game at the college level during the Gamecocks’ 38-16 win over Florida Atlantic, running for 113 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
