Former Sickles standout point guard Jordan Davis, the 2010 Tampa Tribune Boys Basketball Player of the Year who led the Gryphons to the Class 5A state championship, is back on the recruiting market.
Davis, who signed with Division I Monmouth University, was suspended indefinitely his freshman season for academic reasons and when the school hired King Rice as its new head coach in March, did not have his scholarship renewed. Davis is currently attending Hillsborough Community College and is an assistant coach on the Sickles boys basketball team, but said he, and Sickles coach Renaldo Garcia, have talked with a number of schools.
Davis, who averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists for Monmouth before being suspended, said Southern Miss, UAB and University of Tampa have shown interest. Davis said he considered playing a year at a junior college, but wanted to continue at the highest level.
