Former Alonso High pitcher Alex Panteliodis, now at the University of Florida, has been named to the Pitcher of the Year Watch List released by the College Baseball Foundation.
Panteliodis, a sophomore left-hander, was one of 49 players on the watch list for the award, which will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 2 as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
Panteliodis, the Tribune’s Hillsborough County Baseball Player of the Year as a senior at Alonso in 2007, has gotten off to a great start in 2009. He is 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA and has 20 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings pitched.
He is scheduled to be on the mound Friday when the Gators open a series against Ole Miss. Expected to take the mound that night for the Rebels is junior Drew Pomeranz, who was also named to the award’s watch list.
