Former Robinson High football standout Javier Arenas, now a senior at the University of Alabama, was named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Crimson Tide’s victory Saturday over LSU.
Arenas, a defensive back, had seven tackles, including two for loss, in the Alabama’s 24-15 triumph, which kept the Crimson Tide undefeated this season and clinched the program a spot in the SEC Championship game for the second consecutive year. Arenas is now tied for second in the SEC with 10.5 tackles for loss this season. He also ranks third on the Alabama defense with 52 tackles this season.
Arenas, also considered one of the nation’s top return specialists, added 78 kickoff return yards and 11 punt return yards in the win.
