Ex-Jefferson DB Brown earns weekly conference honor

Former Jefferson High football player Kevin Brown, now playing at Middle Tennessee State, was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Blue Raiders’ 37-21 win over North Texas on Saturday.

Brown, a junior safety, had his first career multi-interception game with two picks in Middle Tennessee’s win., the team’s third straight victory. He also added six tackles and a pass breakup. It is the first player of the week honor for Brown in his collegiate career.

Brown, a 2007 Jefferson grad, is a two-year letterwinner at Middle Tennessee in his second year as a starter. Following the conclusion of spring drills Brown earned the team’s most improved safety award and the most improved strength training award for safeties, and he has gotten off to a great start in 2009.

Brown now leads the Sun Belt Conference with three interceptions and also paces the league in passes defended. He has five interceptions in his career.

Brown was one of four Jefferson players to sign with the Blue Raiders in 2007, and he is one of eight former Hillsborough County players on the Middle Tennessee roster this season.
