Middle Tennessee State defensive back Alex Suber, a Jefferson High product, was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Blue Raiders’ 38-19 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
Suber, a senior, had eight tackles, a sack and an interception - which he returned 56 yards to set up a Middle Tennessee State touchdown - to earn the weekly conference honor. Suber is the ninth MTSU player to earn a Sun Belt weekly honor this season.
Suber, a team captain and four-year starter in the Blue Raiders’ secondary, ranks seventh on the team this season with 52 tackles. He also 2.5 sacks and leads the team is pass breakups (11) and passes defensed (12). Suber’s interception Saturday was his first this season and fourth of his career.
MTSU’s victory Saturday was the team’s sixth straight and improved the Blue Raiders to 9-3 on the season. Suber’s final collegiate game will be in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 20 against an opponent yet to be determined.
