Chamberlain High grad Austin Evans, now with the University of Tampa, was selected in the 23rd round (698th overall) by the Chicago White Sox in Tuesday’s MLB draft.
Evans, a junior right-handed pitcher, signed with Alabama out of high school and spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Crimson Tide. This past season was his first with the Spartans, and he saw limited action, making just 10 appearances in a relief role and posted a 5.40 ERA over 11 2/3 innings.
