Former Zephyrhills baseball player Geoff Parker, who is now at Florida State, was selected Tuesday by the Colorado Rockies in the ninth round (290th pick overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.
Parker, a junior right-hander pitcher, is 4-1 with three saves and a 4.60 ERA this season for the Seminoles. Parker has thrown 72 1/3 innings over 28 appearances (nine starts), striking out 64 in that span.
Parker and Florida State are still alive in the NCAA postseason. The Seminoles host a NCAA Super Regional against Vanderbilt with a spot at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., on the line. The best-of-three series begins Friday in Tallahassee.
