EAST HARTFORD, Conn. USF heads into the final quarter at Rentschler Field still behind Connecticut, which leads 16-10 after three quarters of play.
After a lackluster first half, the Bulls offense showed some life to open the second. Quarterback B.J. Daniels engineered a seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive after the Bulls took the opening kick, capping it with a 22-yard scoring run to give the Bulls a 10-6 lead. Daniels was 5-for-5 passing for 62 yards on the drive; He had just four completions for 32 yards in the entire first half.
But the Huskies came right back with an answer, marching 67 yards in eight plays to set up another short Dave Teggart field goal to bring to make it a 10-9 game. And then the defense gave UConn the lead the next time it took the field.
Bulls running back Darrell Scott fumbled and the ball was recovered by defensive back Byron Jones and returned 10 yards for a touchdown, putting the Huskies in front, 16-10, with 7:06 remaining in the quarter.
UConn just took over possession before the third quarter ended and has the ball at its own 25 facing a second and 9.
