USF and West Virginia are scoreless through one quarter of action at Raymond James Stadium, but the best news for the Bulls is they’re playing at full strength.
Quarterback B.J. Daniels, who missed last game with a right shoulder injury, was able to make the start under center, and the Bulls also welcomed back receivers Sterling Griffin and A.J. Love, both of whom have been out the past few weeks.
West Virginia had the only opportunity to score in the opening quarter, but Tyler Bitancurt’s 39-yard field goal attempt bounced off an upright. The potential scoring drive was set up by another poor punt from USF’s Justin Brockhaus-Kann, whose rugby-style kick traveled just 21 yards and gave the Mountaineers possession at the Bulls 43. Brockhaus-Kann’s first punt was downed inside the West Virginia 20, but it covered only 24 yards after the Bulls opted to punt when facing a fourth-and-three at the Mountaineers 38.
USF running back Darrell Scott has a solid showing in the opening quarter, gaining 51 yards on seven carries.
