PISCATAWAY, N.J. We’re scoreless through one quarter of action at High Point Solutions Stadium, as both USF and Rutgers are trying to work into an offensive rhythm.

The two teams combined for just 77 yards of offense, with the Scarlet Knights holding a slight edge with 42 yards. USF had just one first down.

There was only one scoring chance in the opening quarter. Rutgers kicker San San Te attempted a 51 yard field goal that fell short.

USF’s defense has been very good against the run thus far, limiting the Scarlet Knights to one yard on nine attempts in the opening quarter. However, Rutgers true freshman quarterback Gary Nova, who has thrown seven interceptions in the last three games, has twice thrown ball that could have been picked off but USF’s defense was unable to come up with the turnover.
