Through one quarter of action at Raymond James Stadium, the visiting Louisville Cardinals have a 3-0 lead over USF, which is playing without starting quarterback B.J. Daniels.
Sophomore Bobby Eveld got the start under center for the Bulls in place of Daniels, who suffered a bruised AC joint in his right (throwing) shoulder in Saturday’s loss to Maimi. Daniels is in uniform for today’s game and went through pregame drills, but coach Skip Holtz opted to give Eveld his second career start.
Eveld went 3-for-4 passing for 29 yards on the Bulls opening drive, which got out to midfield before stalling.
Louisville had a nice opening drive to the game, but it ended when kicker Chris Philpott’s 32-yard field goal attempt went off the left upright. The Cardinals did strike first, however, cashing in on a Victor Marc fumble on a punt return with a 30-yard Philpott field goal with 42 seconds remaining.
