Phillip Ely’s never lost a game as Plant’s starting quarterback. He hopes to carry on that winning tradition in college.
Ely announced he has selected defending national champion Alabama over the more than 30 other Division I scholarship offers he received, including Clemson, LSU, Ole Miss, Purdue, Rutgers and USF. Alabama was one of the last schools to offer a scholarship but made a good sale.
Ely, 19-0 as Plant’s starter, whittled his list down this summer and visited several college campuses. He also spent several days participating in the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp with some of the top passers in the country.
Following several days of workouts and competitions, Ely was named Most Versatile.
Ely’s the third-consecutive Division I quarterback Plant has produced. Robert Marve, from the 2006 state championship team, is slated to start at Purdue this season. Aaron Murray, from the 2008 state title team, will start for the Georgia Bulldogs this year.
