Ekeler out of mix - again

If University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt still plans on having co-defensive coordinators at USF, he’ll have to do so without Nebraska linebackers coach Mike Ekeler.

Sunday night, Leavitt offered the co-coordinator positions to Ekeler and Iowa State secondary coach Chris Ash. Early Monday afternoon, Ekeler decided he would remain with Nebraska.

Ekeler, 37, had initially interviewed with Leavitt last week, but told the Omaha (Neb.) World Herald on Thursday he was “happy” to be at Nebraska. Still, Leavitt pursued Ekeler a second time after being turned down Sunday by Georgia linebackers coach John Jancek and Colorado secondary coach Greg Brown.

Leavitt is seeking replacements for defensive coordinator Wally Burnham and secondary coach Troy Douglas.

With Ekeler out of the picture, will Leavitt try to pair Ash, 35, with another individual as co-defensive coordinators? Or will Leavitt offer Ash the defensive coordinator position and hire another individual as linebackers coach?

Hey, GR Husker….

Are you a Nebraska student / alum?

If so, I’m guessing the university relaxes standards on reading comprehension.  Nowhere in Dan’s post did he say (either explicitly or implicitly) that those were factors for luring coaches.

If you will take your time (perhaps an hour or two for you) and read his post, you will see he was simply lauding the perceived positives of the Tampa Bay area in comparison to Lincoln, Nebraska.

Let’s re-examine that contest for the dumbest post of the year, shall we?

I am a huge husker fan, but you are all a bunch of idiots.  It is true that USF has been more consistent over the last few years, but USF fans have to agree that NU made a great hire in Bo Pelini and the Huskers are on the way back up.  I wish I could say we would have 10-12 wins this year, but I don’t see it happening.  I will say that we will be consistently in the running in the next 2-4 years.

Husker in Phoenix,

I resent your accusation.  My IQ is over 20, making me at least an imbecile; not an idiot as you proclaim.
