Shytina Harley accomplished something Wednesday night only three other girls players at East Bay had done before her.
Harley hit the 1,000-career point mark with 22 points in the Indians 56-50 loss to Riverview Wednesday. Harley, who is nearing the 1,000-rebound club as well, needed just eight points in Wednesday night’s game to reach the milestone.
She reached the 1,000 points midway through the second quarter. Coach Terry Varvil called timeout to celebrate the moment and Harley presented the ball to her mother Clestine, an Army sergeant who has been deployed overseas for most of Harley’s high school career. Clestine Harley leaves Thursday for Fort Bragg.
Harley now needs just 11 rebounds to complete the incredibly rare career double-double.
