Eagles will be a bit shortanded tonight

Brandon will be a bit shorthanded tonight in a big district matchup against Wharton. Eagles coach John Lima said earlier this week that two starting offensive linemen will serve team-imposed suspensions, while senior cornerback Dwayne Payne will be serving the first of a two-game suspension handed down by the FHSAA after he was ejected during last week’s loss to Sickles for using profanity.

While Brandon (1-4) has struggled this season and enters tonight’s game on a two-game losing streak, Lima said his team has continued to get better each week. He’s been pleased with the play of the Eagles defense, led by tackle Shawn Council, and thinks some early position switches are finally starting to pay dividends.

“We’ve been shuffling some guys in and out in a lot of spots, and we’re finally getting some continuity in a lot of places,” the coach said.

One place where players continue to shuffle is under center, where junior Josh Celerin and sophomore Alan Knipple are still splitting time. Lima said both players have had their bright spots but need to show more consistency.

Lima didn’t say which quarterback would start tonight, but that both would see action.
