Hillsborough wide receiver and safety Terrence Mitchell has received an official offer from Duke University, Terriers coach Earl Garcia said Thursday.
Mitchell is only a junior but his performances in track and field last spring, along with his football skills, have apparently turned the heads of the Duke coaching staff. Mitchell long jumped 24 feet, 1 inch last spring, won the region in the event and was third in the Class 3A state finals. In the 100-meter dash, Mitchell, aka “T-Rex,” was the regional runner-up, ran a personal best of 10.59 seconds and finished seventh at the state meet. He was also part of the Terriers’ state-ranked 4x100 relay team. This fall, he is a starter at safety and wide out for Hillsborough.
His teammate and cousin on the track and football teams, senior Lindsey Lamar, already has an offer from Duke. This weekend, Lamar, also a state-ranked sprinter and the Terriers’ leading rusher last fall with nearly 1,000 yards, plans to make an official visit to Wake Forest. Lamar says the Demon Deacons are currently his top choice for college football. He also has several track scholarship offers.
