TAMPA—Raheem Morris has been looking at game films with some envy this week.
When Tampa Bay’s rookie coach checks out the 3-5 Dolphins, he sees an offense built in his image—tough, physical and resolute.
Miami is one of only four NFL clubs with more rushes than pass attempts and that commitment on the ground is a goal for Morris, who has seen Tampa Bay’s running game struggle since a dynamic season opener against Dallas.
“Usually, the more physical team wins that day,’’ said Morris. “Violent football teams win and this (Miami) is a violent football team.’‘
With Coach Tony Sparano and VP of Football Operations Bill Parcells setting an aggressive tone, the Dolphins have tried to take the pressure off second-year QB Chad Henne by relying on powerful backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Only two years removed from a 1-15 season, Miami has created a physical identity on offense heading into Sunday’s matchup.
“He (Sparano) and Parcells are cut from the same mold—they’re tough guys,’’ Morris said. “I love it. That’s the tough, physical stuff we’re trying to develop. That’s stuff you look at from afar and you go, man, that’s what you’re trying to get done.’‘
Morris said he expects the Bucs to play more physical football in the second half of the season.
“It’s all about someone bowing up,’’ said Morris.
