The obvious storyline this week for the University of South Florida is the loss of senior QB Matt Grothe and freshman QB B.J. Daniels making his first start at Florida State.
USF coach Jim Leavitt was asked Tuesday about each player and then was asked about the players’ style?
“Style? I don’t know what you mean,” Leavitt said. “Do they dress the same? No, Matt is more like he wants to hunt and fish. B.J. probably will be wearing the nice watch and the suit. (If they) went out dancing, I imagine Matt’s country-western, maybe, and B.J. might be a little more not country-western. I don’t know their style.”

Translation: you really want me to give away tips a few days before we play FSU?

Brett, I was wondering if Grothe had any chance at playing football in the pros, even before the injury. I mean any league, at any level, at any position. Scout team, whatever. Now he will have to conquor rehab before he can try, but what chances were there/are there for him?

Dalatorr, Grothe wants to play in the NFL, but with his lack of size and lack of NFL-caliber arm strength, I don’t think that’s realistic. With that said, I think he could play quarterback in the CFL. He said he wants to play professionally whether its the NFL, CFL or UFL. I have a feeling if he really wants to and does his rehab, he’ll make a pro team somewhere next year.

Thanks, Brett. Heard you expound on that answer on the radio this afternoon, too. It’s got to be encouraging for Matt and his family to hear that, and his fans will want him to follow the Doug Flutie path and maybe get a shot one day.
