If the season were to begin today, Jeff Garcia would be the Bucs starting quarterback - I know shocking, right?
What is somewhat shocking is the way the rest of the quarterback rotation pans out. Bruce Gradkowski would be the backup and Chris Simms would be relegated to No. 3 duty. That would leave Luke McCown at No. 4, likely off the team.
As expected, Garcia took snaps with the first-team offense during 11-on-11 drills at today’s workout. The offensive line in front of Garcia included tackle Jeremy Trueblood and Davin Joseph on the right side, John Wade at center and guard Anthony Davis, last year’s starting left tackle, and tackle Luke Petitgout on the left side.
Gradkowski was under center with the second team, behind a line consisting of Davis at left tackle, Jeb Terry at left guard, Matt Lehr at center, Chris Denman at right guard and Donald Penn at right tackle.
The Bucs wrapped up their final OTA on Thursday (No. 14) and will hold a three-day mandatory mini camp next week. Everyone is expected to attend, but not everyone will be able to participate, including defensive end Simeon Rice, who has been rehabilitating a shoulder injury that ended his season last year.
“I think Brian Kelly will participate, certainly,” Gruden said. “Simeon Rice, that will be announced when he gets here and we get a good look at him. He’s made great progress and we’ll make that decision when we see him.”
Gruden also added he thinks Rice will be ready to play when training camp opens next month.

Remember Gradowski’s first 2 games? He looked like a vet out there and we won. Then Gruden started cramming his ridiculous overly complicated playbook down his throat and he choked.
Bruce is an exact replica of Garcia. Gruden might realize Bruce had real potential and that Garcia is the best possible man to teach him. Give the kid a chance. Could be worse, we could have Rex Grossman starting.

Didn’t Jeff Garcia play in the playoffs last year and have a very good passer rating?

Has Gruden lost his mind? Does he want a repeat of what happened last season? What I mean by that is having an inexperienced backup quarterback behind the starter. The likelihood of Jeff Garcia starting all 16 games is not very likely when you consider his age and the bucs having a young offensive line. If he goes into the season with Gradkowski as the backup that means Gradkowski is one play away from being the starter. And if that happens Jon Gruden should sign his resignation papers immediately. And I for one cannot stomach another year of Bruce Gradkowski.

Unsigned rookies are not practicing in the minicamp. They held a rookie camp, but these guys must be under contract first. Hence, no Aaron Sears ‘practing’ first or second team.

Rufus, dufus why don’t you read.

I’m guessing she meant Aaron to be on the first team as she used Anthony Davis twice. Help us out, Katherine!

You may want to read that again! He is not on the first team!

He is on the first team, idiots.

Where is Aaron Sears?

Where was Arron Sears in that mix? Is he not even good enough for second team?

I have to agree with Jason: Gradkowski started his NFL career lights-out and led us to a 2-1 (could have been 3-0)start before all the wheels fell off of the wagon. Those were all good teams too. He had good numbers for a rookie QB and the word out of camp is that he is looking very good right now. I believe he will be the backup (barring a Snake signing) and I’m fine with that. All he needed last year were some catches from his receivers (see NYG game) and a running game (see every game) and he would have done fine. He’s definitely better than Simms BY FAR!!! Ideally we will start the season with Garcia, Plummer & Gradkowski on the sideline.
