ST. PETERSBURG The non-waiver trading period is in its final hour and the Rays are rumored to be pursuing lefty Scott Downs of the Blue Jays and righty Brandon League of the Mariners.
There are also reports that the Rays have an interest in left-handed slugger Luke Scott of the Orioles and Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez.
With Grant Balfour headed to the disabled list for what appears to be more than a month with an intercostal strain, it would seem the Rays would want to bolster their bullpen.
They acquired righty Chad Qualls from the Diamondbacks earlier today, but Qualls has struggled this season. He has an 8.29 ERA and opposing batters are hitting a healthy .370 against him.
