Bucs Report
Dead Man Walking

Jeff Garcia just walked through a gaunlet of reporters here and made quite a comment.

When one reporter joked that he was walking the Green Mile, he responded by saying, “yeah, dead man walking.”

You get the feeling from that comment that Garcia doesn’t feel too good about the latest Brett Favre news.

Looks like he believes he’s a goner in this deal. At the very least, we know that he would wind up as a backup to Favre.

Bret Favre would be nice for tampa but i think we need to stick with what we got or get younger people in the team.I hear all the time up here in pa you live in pittsburgh be a steelers fan.I tell them heck no i love my bucs always did and always will go bucs. But like i said i hear that tampa bay is an old person team i dont think so.Well bye for now go tamapa bay

Jason..your question “why wouldn’t you want Favre to play for Tampa” and implying we don’t know football if we don’t. Please..here is your answer..just wait and watch.

Garcia is a team player and has the respect of his players. Favre retired then changed his mind and wanted everyone to drop everything to accomodate him. Do the math. Second, he had not been in camp and does not know Grudens offense. We didn’t need him here for his ego or Gruden’s. Glad the Jets have him.
Like I said, you want your answer as to why? Wait and see.

KBA, I agree Garcia has been mistreated, but, in fairness to the writers, I must note that Garcia himself uttered this quote.  I hope he’ll be even more motivated after this.  It would be a shame if all of this really got to him and we lost a Pro Bowl QB who actually knows our playbook.  We all know where Favre is now, so we can get back to our team here.

To kyle f, kansas.  The best post I have read on this board.  Lot’s of the other B.S. is just that.  Thanks kyle for bringing a little sanity to all this B. S.  It’s not just a game to those who play!!  Garcia always leaves everything he has on the field and sometimes more!  To bad it’s not enough.

"Dead Man Walking”?????  Let’s put the Favre story aside for a moment so that I can make the following statement on its own.

To think of how much Garcia meant to this Bucs team last year and the Tribune writes “Dead Man Walking”.  Where is the loyalty and respect for a guy that put his guts out on that field last year helping get us to the playoffs and we write, “Dead Man Walking”?

This QB swap may make sense and may even happen, but that doesn’t mean we should disrespect Garcia.

Jets Jets Jets are more desparate than Bucs...Allen drives a hard bargain...so Jeff don’t sweat the green mile...you are part of the BUCS future...and so might be McCown and Simms I hope…

Hey bucs fans, I will soon be in front of that bus with the other guys. I have read every report that has been written about this debacle. The facts of the matter are that Brett never changed his story once while the G.B. BRAINLESS TRUST changed theirs 5 seperate times. Thompson is the snake i thought he was the day they hired him. I only hope Brett still has a couple of great years left. I HOPE TO BE A BUCS FAN SOON. GO BUCS.....

jason ball if your a packer fan then why don’t you keep him
..let him tear you team apart not ours

Posted by  Jason Ball, Spring Lake, MI on 08/06  at  06:36 PM

Farve will bring a winning attitude to the locker room and will win more games at 39 than any other clown that’s thrown a football in Tampa.  I am a Packer fan first so GO PACK and I would think anyone who understands football and knows what Farve has brought to the NFL all these years would wish the best for him no matter where he play’s.
P.S. Tampa will earn more money with Favre their than Tampa has made the last three years as a franchise.

I don’t get it .... right now I feel like the only one who knows football.  Favre clearly was not welcomed by management in Green Bay (which I don’t agree with) so I don’t understand why everyone is on Favre’s case.  Tampa “fan’s” why the crap would you not want Favre to play for you ... Favre is far from washed up, he broke countless records last year, was a pass away from going to the Super Bowl and was second in MVP votes ( I don’t remember seeing Garcia’s name being mentioned ) in case you forgot Garcia is an average QB that had a couple of good years ( one being last year ).  more to follow ......

bring in farve would be a very big mistake for the bucs,,,, I SAY NO DEAL!

Posted by  Jimbo, Philly on 08/06  at  05:34 PM

Tampa Bay - Don’t make the same mistake Philadelphia made.  Keep Garcia!

Brett - quit your whining - it’s not all about you.

I know that Bret(Lambeau Field at Farve Stadium) is bored with all the Olympics coming up and the political conventions on the horizon, and he not getting any attention these days so he decides to give his ego a summer boost with this garbage.
+++ Jeff Garcia is a better quarterback that Mr.Farve, and the Bucs would be crazy to offer the # 1 job to a 39 year old quarterback who best days are far behind him. This instant super bowl winning season is far from being a sure thing and then the Bucs have used a perfectly good quarterback (Garcia) as a place mat. He deserves better for sure.
Hey Mr.Gruden be a stand up coach and pass on this disaster.

Jeff Garcia saved both Allen & Grudens jobs with his winning season last year. Bringing Farve in is not only a kick in the face for Jeff Garcia. Farve is like a spouse who has been cheated on! He will bring so much negative baggage to the Buc’s that I doubt if we will have a winning season. Forget about the playoffs or the idea of a Super Bowl in our home stadium.

Favre, Garcia, it does not matter to me who is the quarter back. As long as they all go out on the field play their very best and try to win. But if they don’t it is still fun to watch. Isn’t that what we teach our children it’s not all about winning - it is how you play the game as a team! Best of the luck this year to all the Buc’s players. I believe a true Buc’s fan will stick by their team no matter who is on or off the team.

Remember the Redskins building teams of old timers/ past their prime ?

Is this really the ‘future’ of the Bucs ?

OMG, what kind of sign is this to the young Bucs… ie. we don’t care about you or how you develop, only about how much $
we can bring in for the short term future (on team clothing sales), and initial ticket sales.
If/when Brett falls on his face, I want to hear from these ‘jump on the bandwagon’ fans going nutso !

A swansong for Garcia who will come back to haunt/break the Bucs back on his next team… good luck Mr Garcia !!!

Throw Farve down. He’s the enemy.

Posted by  Phil Attio, Tampa, Florida on 08/06  at  05:10 PM

I simply will have an absolute hissy fit if that scrumptous little Mr Garcia fails to play for the Bucs this year.  We in the Gay/Lesbian community have precious few role models in professional sports to choose from. I wish that the Bucs would have gotten that little minx, Adam “Blacman” Jones! Bye, bye Jeffrey. Kisses 2 U.

Garcia was ok to watch. He led team to division title. But Favre, all the ladies of Tampa Bay will go gaga once again. An aerial show on John Gruden’s watch? Doubt it. My guess is he will be NY Jet tomorrow. Hope not.

Pull the trigger or move on. This is a needless distraction in the mean time. Favre or Gracia to start, either one is fine with me. Let’s just start the damn season already!

Jeff, I thank you for 2007 and I will continue to see you wearing a pirate helmit where ever you are.  Sometimes, knowing that football is a BUSINESS just sucks!!  It seems that giving your ultimate soul to an organization as you have is not enough any more.  I will fully support Brett Favre and the Buccaneers, but I will not forget that you got the RAWEST of deals.  Good luck wherever you are, be it in Tampa are elsewhere.  I am your fan!!!!!

Posted by  k c craig, MIddlebrook, VA on 08/06  at  04:40 PM

I love Brett Favre!  I love what he has done for the Packers!  I love what he has done for all of football!  He is a certified 1st vote Hall of Famer and all time great.  If I could personally vote for him, I would!!  However, I also love Jeff Garcia.  It was his intensity, GUTS and leadership that carried us to the playoffs last year.  Other Buc players made significant contributions in 2007, but all true Buc fans know that it was Jeff Garcia, alone, who got the job done.  When Brett gets to Tampa, I will definitely be in his corner as I am bottom line, A BUCCANEER FAN.  However, I shall also be in the corner of Jeff Garcia.  (Second Email to complete to follow.)

Mitch,

While I agree that it is shameful the way we’re treating Garcia - if the deal gets done.  He deserves better!

At the same time, I have to respectfully disagree about Favre’s prospects here.  People tend to forget that production at QB is only part, and a small one at that, about “system” and comfort therein.  In the end, A QB is either good or not - and I think we can all agree that Favre is in that former category [VERY good].  While he may not have the time to learn all the intricacies of the offense and the other players on it, his talent nearly moots that point.  He is just that good...and makes everyone around him better.  Just look at what he did with an offense full of middle- to late-round picks.

Posted by  Mitch HOlder, Atlanta ga on 08/06  at  04:28 PM

I think the best on the field option for the Bucs would be to keep Jeff Garcia But if given the oppurtunity I think the Bucs will make the deal and bring Favre in to the mix and that dissapoints me . Garcia will be gone in a trade somewhere and chances will be highly against us making the playoffs due to the injection of a new QB in August(no matter how good you are it is not enough time to learn a system ,learn recievers tendencies etc.) and will Favre fit in Grudens system? It definatly shows that the Organization is more set on selling Favre Jerseys and tickets than putting the best product on the field
