Jeff Garcia just walked through a gaunlet of reporters here and made quite a comment.
When one reporter joked that he was walking the Green Mile, he responded by saying, “yeah, dead man walking.”
You get the feeling from that comment that Garcia doesn’t feel too good about the latest Brett Favre news.
Looks like he believes he’s a goner in this deal. At the very least, we know that he would wind up as a backup to Favre.

Poor Jeffria Garcia. She was great, but she is injury prone.

Oh Yeah! That’s a great attitude for the Bucs #1 Quarterback. He has just assumed all along that he won’t have any competition this year and now he’s sulking!!! Take it like a man Garcia.

Jeff Garcia voiced his displeasure in Cleveland about the offensive line and lack of help provided by Front Office…they said adios.
He complained in Detroit about the Front Office drafting receivers with questionable work ethic….adios.
In Philly, Jeff voiced the concerns that the locker room was divided and it would be hard to coexist with McNabb (said in friendly way), adios Jeff.
He voices after the playoff game, that we don’t need recievers, need to utilize the guys we have (strike one). He voices that he needs a contract extension or he may consider a holdout (strike two), he then says he doesn’t trust the coach or GM (strike three).
Anyone see a pattern here?

This is the part of the potential deal that I hate. Jeff Garcia came in and played like a warrior for this team last season. He gave absolutely everything his had and led us to a division title with 3 weeks to spare. In a perfect world, Garcia would have thrown a few more TDs and missed a few less games - then there would be no obvious need for an upgrade. Unfortunately, that’s not the case…and, if we do get this deal done, Garcia might just be the player in the NFL most worthy of pity. He deserves better than this…but this team, and it’s fans, deserve to have a REAL chance at playing in a super Bowl…something Garcia probably can’t deliver.

Another thing: Ron and Ian keep talking about Antonio Bryant and others, saying you can’t talk about what you can be, you have to talk about what you are…today.
Garcia since 2003-13 starts (S.F.), 10 starts, 5 starts, 6 starts, and 13 starts (2008 bucs).
Garcia is a fragile but yet tough QB (his toughness may lead to injury). Garcia is a very capable QB but he really can he be counted on for 16 games?
Oh, I should mention, I don’t mind having Jeff Garcia as a QB. I don’t have faith in his ability not to get injured and I don’t like his stepping up to the microphone every opportunity he gets to air his displeasure about everything.

Send Garcia to the Packers, i’ll bet he can take Rodgers job in no time!

The treating of Jeff Garcia is disgusting. He was a pro bowl QB who along with Earnest Graham saved John Gruden and Bruce Allen’s jobs last year. Nice payback.

I remember the first game I saw against Green Bay. It was Rookie Mike Alstott first exposure to Green Bay and Brett Farve and the Rain at the old Tampa Stadium. Those were memories I will cherish. But I will also cherrish new memories with Brett Farve still has the hunger to play if Garcia doesn’t like it let Chris Simms backup Farve. Go Bucs

Remember people Garcia was only a pro bowler because Favre sat it out. Simple math who is better who will make your team better. I was a die hard Packers fan but with the way this was handled it looks like I am soon to be a Bucs fan.

Stop wanking about Garcia, it is a business, he’s made his money in the game. If Favre makes us better and we actually get him, then #####!! This isn’t even a done deal and people are crying, good god stop worrying about what hasn’t happened yet. If we do get Favre we need to ship Garcia, Simms and Griese out on there way for draft picks. Simms to Chicago, Garcia to the Jets and Griese anywhere we can get a pick, I am sure someone will take him.

The question is: If the Bucs don’t get Favre, is the relationship between the Bucs and Garcia irreparably damaged?

Packer fan from Wisconsin here ... momentarily that is, until I throw myself in front of that train along with my other Packer fans.
But I digress ... Brett will be good for your team if he’s traded to the Bucs. Keep in mind he’d rather throw an interception than throw the ball away. Some habits are hard to break, but he’s got spunk.
How are your receivers? They’ll need to practice catching airborn missles. Seriously, they will. If you get Brett, take good care of him.
Gotta run ... have to train to catch.
PS. Brett really wanted to go to the Vikings. Just to annoy the Packer Front Office, please trade him to Minnesota ASAP. Thanks.

We want Favre to play here… but one thing does stick in the back of my head. Madden Curse!!!!
Suggest removalPor (Robert J. Radel) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Taking on Brett Favre is the most stupid idea the Buc’s could ever come up with. The chemistry in the locker room could be negative, and the locker room will be split. When everyone is on the same page winning is still tough, now it will be impossible. What does Jeff Garcia feel at this point? Tell Brett to take a walk, this all his fault. We can not have a QB that cant make up his mind!
Suggest removalPor (buccaholic316) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Totally didn’t think about the curse. It has been scientifically proven if you’re on the cover of Madden your season is over. Hasn’t someone told Bruce Allen about this? How about the Glazer’s? They must be warned.

I’m still amazed that an ICON in football with dedication to the Packers for almost 17 years, could be treated the way he was. If given the opportunity, I think the Bucs should welcome Brett with open arms, and get over the “drama” that Gruden’s offensive playbook is compliated. For gosh sake, Favre didn’t become an MVP in this league by being a dope, and he should be able to master an playbook. I’ve got the No.4 on my Bucs’s jersey right now. “Common down” Brett, this Florida friendly state will welcome you with open arms.

Mark, how can any NFL fan blame Favre for any of this? Both sides have messed up. Favre brought that franchise back to life and should be allowed to return. The day Favre is anything close to a diva is the day that I move to Minnesota. Quit copying other idiots’ characterizations of his actions and give me concrete reasons why Favre is not the same Favre most fans loved. Lord, please let this situation be resolved by tomorrow so we can get back to Bucs news.
Suggest removalPor (ref813) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Linda, you beat me to the punch on that one. One thing I must disagree with is the idea that Favre could have anywhere near a complete grasp on Gruden’s offense within a few weeks. That, along with his ints, is the main reason I can’t say that he would be great in Tampa. One can always hope, but the odds aren’t great.
Suggest removalPor (Jan Restivo) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
To me, Brett Favre is the “Bill Parcels” of Quarterbacks. Have we forgotten how Tampa Bay courted Parcells, at Dungy’s expense years ago, only to have Parcell’s leave us high and dry…when clearly Dungy was the class act?
Suggest removalI see this the same. Brett Favre retired, he was not pushed out of Green Bay. Just because he wanted to go back does not mean they had to rearrange everything to accomodate him.
He does not know Gruden’s offense, has not been at camp and what if he gets a “whim” to retire again?
Jeff Garcia is a talented TEAM PLAYER, lets not do another disaster like Parcells to accomodate another ego, be it Favre’s or Gruden’s.
Por (patrick crago) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Dont wory about the Madden curse. Several factors in the Favre deal would break the curse. 1/ Different uniform than the cover (Pack uni on cover) 2/ 1st to retire and then be on cover 3/ Never been a Buc on the cover to break the jinx All kidding aside I will believe this when I see Favre on the practice field for the Bucs. I still say he may just go home to Miss.

I think the best on the field option for the Bucs would be to keep Jeff Garcia But if given the oppurtunity I think the Bucs will make the deal and bring Favre in to the mix and that dissapoints me . Garcia will be gone in a trade somewhere and chances will be highly against us making the playoffs due to the injection of a new QB in August(no matter how good you are it is not enough time to learn a system ,learn recievers tendencies etc.) and will Favre fit in Grudens system? It definatly shows that the Organization is more set on selling Favre Jerseys and tickets than putting the best product on the field
Suggest removalPor (Shawn Golan) on August 06, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Mitch,
While I agree that it is shameful the way we’re treating Garcia - if the deal gets done. He deserves better!
At the same time, I have to respectfully disagree about Favre’s prospects here. People tend to forget that production at QB is only part, and a small one at that, about “system” and comfort therein. In the end, A QB is either good or not - and I think we can all agree that Favre is in that former category [VERY good]. While he may not have the time to learn all the intricacies of the offense and the other players on it, his talent nearly moots that point. He is just that good…and makes everyone around him better. Just look at what he did with an offense full of middle- to late-round picks.
