Sickles senior point guard Jordan Davis has been named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 13 (Hillsborough County) Player of the Year by Hillsborough County coaches, which goes to the top senior in the county.
The 5-foot-11 guard will play in the annual FACA North vs. South Senior All-Star game, which features the top seniors in the state.
Davis, who is verbally committed to Division I Monmouth University, scored 21 points to lead his No. 5 state-ranked Gryphons against third-ranked Punta Gorda Charlotte in the Class 5A Region 3 semifinals on Tuesday. Sickles (27-2) hosts Clearwater in the 5A Region 3 championship Saturday at 7 p.m. This season, he has averaged 15 points and 8 assists per game.
Tampa Prep senior forward Jay Bowie finished second in total votes for the honor while Newsome senior forward Samal Shepherd finished third.
Davis was also named the FACA District 13 Class 5A Player of the Year while Bowie was named 2A Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Seffner Christian senior forward Devin Paularinne was named 1A Player of the Year; Tampa Catholic junior point guard Lashawn Harrison was named 3A Player of the Year; Blake junior guard Andre Smith was named 4A Player of the Year and Plant sophomore guard Michael Frazier was named 6A Player of the Year.
Coaches were also honored. Cambridge Christian coach Scott Thompson received the honor for Class 1A; Tampa Prep coach Joe Fenlon was honored for 2A, Tampa Catholic coach Don Dziagwa was honored for 3A; Blake coach Winston Davis was named 4A COY; Newsome coach Jon Mackey and Sickles coach Renaldo Garcia were named co-5A Coaches of the Year and Wharton coach Tommy Tonelli was named 6A COY.
