Notes from correspondent Michael Manganello:
University of South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels sat out practice Tuesday while he continues to recover from a bruised AC joint injury he sustained in his throwing shoulder Saturday against Miami.
“He’s getting better,” Holtz said. “We’re going to have to go through this and see how he responds to some of the treatment with it being a sprain and not a break or something like that where you could put a timetable on it. He did not practice today. He was out there, he was involved with the meetings going on mentally, but physically, we don’t want to do anything that’s going to set us back.”
Holtz said the competition behind sophomore Bobby Eveld for the backup role is stiff, though true freshman Matt Floyd is progressing.
“I feel a little bit better about (Floyd serving as backup if necessary),” he said. “It’s hard because it’s not live, everything’s not going around full speed … there’s a lot of factors like that.”
BULLS BITS: RB Marcus Shaw, who was suspended against Miami participated in practice Tuesday, though he will not play against Louisville … CB Spencer Boyd, also suspended, was not at practice … Starting CBs Kayvon Webster and Quenton Washington were held out of practice following their collision on the last play of the game Saturday, but both are on schedule to play Friday.
