Junior quarterback B.J. Daniels has earned plenty of praise for his play during the opening two weeks, but quarterbacks coach Peter Vaas said there’s still plenty of constructive criticism being thrown his way.
“It’s a delicate balance of always finding ways to motivate him. Not that you want to harp on the negatives, but you want to make sure that he’s aware there’s still room for improvement,” Vaas said. “We haven’t arrived yet. We need to get better, and the best thing about it is we can get better. We haven’t thrown the ball down field very effectively yet, and that’s one of the area’s we’ll harp on. There are some little footwork issues that we’ve got to get straightened out and ironed out. There’s a lot of little things that we can keep doing to get better and better.”
With his main goal being perfection, Daniels understands there’s still plenty of room for growth. As for the early praise, he’s remaining humble.
“I’ve definitely been around long enough to experience the highs and the lows, so I’ve been through it before,” Daniels said. “Like I say every week, I just have to try and get better.”
BULLS BITS: Freshman Antoine Pozniak, who moved from linebacker to defensive end at the start of fall camp, has now moved back to linebacker and will redshirt. Holtz said the emergence of senior Claude Davis (team-best three sacks) as the team’s fifth end allowed for the move. … USF’s home game against UTEP on Sept. 24 will be a 7 p.m. kickoff.
