Dan Boyle deal complete

While no press release has been sent out with the particulars of the trade, San Jose just sent out an advisory that will make Sharks’ general manager Doug Wilson available to the media on a conference call. Just for reference purposes, something like this doesn’t get sent out until everything has been approved by the league. I expect a formal announcment from both teams shortly.

As reported earlier, the deal also includes Brad Lukowich heading to San Jose in exchange for defenseman Matt Carle, former 2006 first-round pick (16th overall) 6-foot-4 defenseman Ty Wishart, a first round pick in 2009 and a fourth-round pick in 2010.

San Jose also reportedly made another move on Friday, sending Craig Rivet to Buffalo.

I’m originally from Minnesota and have seen a lot of Hockey.  Dan Boyle is one of th best defenceman in hockey.  He is a credit to the game of hockey and a fine person.

To get a 6 yr contract in Feb and forced out in JULY is terrible.  On top of that he had just built a new home.

The ownership of the LIGHTNING showed aggresiveness in getting prople but it looks like the veterans that have proved themselves in the game are not needed.  Is this HOCKEY politics?

DAN we’re sorry to see you go, Good LUCK.

I cant stand Boumeester. I would not like to see him in a lightning sweater. Bringing him in would be a mistake and still doesnt give us a vetern dman. Glad I havent put any money into tickets yet

Boyle’s move as heartbreaking as it may be, is salary cap induced. WhY? Because the new owners acted like kids in a candy shop: “give me a Malone, I want a Roberts, “I’ll take a Hall and give me a Kolzig”

When its comes time to pay for the candy, they have to borrow a quarter from dad.

Suspect defense is now worse without Boyle, and suspect goal tending.

You win cups from the net out. We will score 400 goals next season and miss the playoffs. Nice going Jack nutts.

Dan thanks for everything. My daughter has the jersy you singed at a one-on-one meet and greet in 2003. you will always have the “CUP”. As far as the trade it will work out for both teams. We cleared cap money, with the ablity to make trades to improve the D.

For me, this deal does two things: Firstly it gives the Lightning space and freedom to continue dealing to bolster the blueline. I agree OK have not finished pulling the trigger. Secondly, this deal looks even better in two years time when Wishart joins the team and shows what a great two way player he is, along with Carle, and a 1st round pick next year that should produce another blue chip player. Three great young players! Wow! Just a shame that to gain strength you have to give something up too. Long term - great deal!

I don’t think that the new owners are finished with the defense yet.  They are only making cap space to allow them to sign, or trade for someone to anchor the blue line.

Just some pure speculation on my part, but if the Lightning are not finished refurbishing their blue line then how about this.  They trade or release Kuba, and offer Jay Bouwmeester a contract.  You would lose a couple of these draft picks next year but would have one hell of a young defenseman.

This is one of the dumbest thing this orginazation has ever done. I dont feel that what we gave up in Dan is being returned. We will regret this. Wheres the teams blueline now? We dont have one. Thanks for all the memories Dan.
