Crazier By The Day

So far the recruiting process is crazy. It gets crazier by the day. I’m getting anywhere from 20 to 30 letters a day and about 15 at school. A total of about 50 a day. I get calls from recruiting websites all hours of the day. Rivals, Scout.com, Gamecocks Central. It’s ridiculous. They want to know how the process is going, the offer situation, what camps am I attending and what unofficial visits I have taken. I am going to the NIKE camp in Gainesville and how the visits have went.

So far I have taken unofficial visits to the University of South Florida, University of Florida, University of South Carolina, Ole Miss and Alabama. USF was the hometown school and I want to make sure I wasn’t missing out on anything. It was pretty good, I enjoyed it and they are in need of a quarterback. I’ve been to Florida about seven or eight times and every time I’ve been there it’s been great. The coaches are a little crazy, but I like them. They know how to recruit. USC was one of the better trips I’ve taken. The only negative thing was it wasn’t a direct flight. Go up to Charlotte and down to Columbia. Other than that, they are an up and coming program and I like them. Actually, two of their recruits (Quinton Richardson – offensive lineman and Gary Gray - cornerback) are going to be coming down in a few weeks and staying with me. Ole Miss was awesome, too. Alabama was awesome. The tradition they have is great. They are renovating their stadium. The tradition just blew me away. Coach Shula is cool and a smart guy. Laid back, but real serious.

Florida, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Alabama are my favorites right now. Anything can happen. I’m still up in the air right now. My main focus is our spring jamboree on May 18. We play Plant. I can’t wait to play to them, I’ve been wanting revenge since last year’s game.

I don’t know what camps I’m going to this summer. I’m hoping to get invited to the Elite 11 Camp, but first will be the Nike Camp.

Right now, I’m looking forward to this season, and help get attention to some of the other players we got on our team that have the opportunity to play D-1 football. We have a very good team this year, and I like our chances at running the table.

hey stephen.  i was raised in oklahoma but now live in sc.  i’m a little biased but i think ou is a much better program.  spurrier is a good coach but stoops is a great coach.  look what stoops did this year with what he was handed.  usc will get better but they will never be a competitor.  the sec is too tough.  the best way to put it - why live in a house under construction when you can move into a fully furnished house that was made for you.  listen to heupel and go win a championship.  just don’t take money from boosters.  good luck and have fun your senior year!

Stephen, Hello from the Arabian Gulf.  As a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy and as a former Dragon football player (C/O 93 Horizon Bowl Champions) I would like to say thank you for keeping the Dragon’s on the map.  Never take for granite what you are doing and the expierences you are going through.  I wish the best of luck and as a Florida State fan I will forgive you if you go to play with Steve Spurier...after all he can’t be to bad he was once a Buccaneer.  Even if he did decline to coach the Bucs.  Again, good luck.

Rick Greene (C/O 93)

kerrick and i are die hard sc fans.  with you being a qb you would have the best qb coach of all time. with his coaching skills and you behind center, you could lead us to a sec championship or even a national championship. you would probably even be a heisman canidate. we cant wait to see you run out of the tunnel with 85,000 fans screaming to 2001

Stephen, we here at SC love football, and we will love you!

Congratulations on the Elite 11!
You are the best quarterback in the nation and shouldn’t have to prove it any further! Go out there and put an exclamation point on it!
Go Gamecocks!

Stephen,

We are all following everything you do in your career! I know you have not picked a college yet but Gamecock fans already regard you as family. I have never seen a recruit that has takem over the hearts of our fans like you have! This is amazing! A lot of fans I talk to have told me they are even planning on going down to Florida to watch some of your games and support you this season.
I truly hope you come play for us and have the greatest quarterback mentor in college football coach you and prepare you for the NFL!
God Bless you and your wonderful family!

First good luck on your game tomorrow you will have Gamecock Nation rooting for your win as well as watching your progress through the year. We to are excited about the prospect of you becoming a Gamecock and competing in the SEC under the Spurrier program, good times are indeed ahead for both players and fans. Take the time to get to know the University of South Carolina’s rich history founded in 1801, football established in 1892. Old school yeah you could say that and proud of it.

Always a great read...good luck in Gainesville at the Nike Camp.  Have fun with Gary, Quinton, Mark, Dontrelle, Cliff and the crew.  Hope to see you and Spurrier behind the helm of the Gamecocks offense for several years to come.

Posted by  Neil, New York City on 05/15  at  11:44 AM

Stephen, clearly you have a difficult decision ahead of you and I would encourage you to think about this objectively as opposed to emotionally. Take your time, make your family a part of your decision making process and ultimately pick the school that fits you best all the way around taking into consideration comfort with the coaches, players and program, proximity to home, the education you will get.  The SEC is a great conference and you are poised to be one of the great QB’s in it.  I wish you all the best in your decision and absolutely hope that you end up picking the Florida Gators as the team you want to play on and be a part of for many years to come.

SG,

Imagine being “The QB” on our first ever SEC championship team!  Wouldn’t that be awesome?  Go Gamecocks and we would love to have you in the great state of South Carolia! Carolina still has the best looking girls!!

Spurrier made Florida! Their trophy case belongs to him. After 58 years of SEC participation and competition, no previous Florida team had ever won an official league championship in football (1984 was stripped after cheating). Spurrier-led Gators have accomplished this six times (1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 2000) dominating the SEC, its title game, and rising to national dominance by always finishing in the top 10.

some posters om here want to talk about our lack of tradition, etc....
what they fail to realize is the fact we have the best qb coach the sec has ever seen. he is assembling a team that will be dominant is the very near future
and tenn., ga., and fla., fans see the writing on the wall.
Mr. garcia, you are one of those puzzles pecies we covet.
make the right decision and become a GAMECOCK.
we look foward to seeing you in the garnet and black.

I do practice reports during the spring and fall for Cockytalk.com, and I can tell you first hand that the Gamecocks have an outstanding foundation in place, and average QB’s running the offense. I’ve seen your video, and imagined that kind of talent to go along with the group of young, talented receivers and backs at USC, and the thoughts of what could take place here in Columbia with Spurrier in control of that kind of firepower staggers the imagination!
Jimmy Clausen had a chance at South Carolina. He choose Notre Dame. He will now be another great quarterback in a long list of great quarterbacks. You my friend have a chance to set the standard and become the Greatest Quarterback here, and start the list of greats at South Carolina.

"The gamecocks have never won anything”, “they’ll never pass UF, UT, and UGA”, “Why would a QB go to SC”.  Fear and panic has set in, and it’s because Steve Spurrier is building a champion in Columbia, and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it.
We welcome you to join us on our journey to the top.  Go COCKS!!

Don’t listen to the frightened fans of competing schools. Spurrier is recruiting you personally, & he’s the top groomer of QBs in the country.

Next time he’s on the phone with you, ASK HIM how long he’ll be in Columbia.  He’ll tell you the same thing he tells the Gamecock Nation: the truth (nice try, UF fans...).  He’s got another 8-10 years in him, he’s made it clear he likes USC, & he’s determined to build an SEC Champion and BCS Title contender.  You KNOW the man and his drive.  You also know he needs players like you to do it.

Enjoy the process and ENJOY YOUR SENIOR YEAR.  Have fun with the ESPN tie-in, and remember to LIVE LIFE.  Don’t forget to be young - it’ll serve you better when you’re old.

GO COCKS!

Think of the possibilities when thinking about USF. You could go down in history books as the talented QB that snubbed all the other schools to make history happen in his own hometown.

USF football history can be made through you. Imagine the exposure you will bring to yourself, USF, and the city of Tampa when you potentially help USF win the Big East championship or even a national title while you’re here. You can be legendary at USF!

Go BULLS!

Stephen,

As a former WR for USC and follower of the program, I can tell you Coach Spurrier is on the cusp of bringing the program to unprecendented heights.

And when it happens, this state, this campus will treat you like a KING for the rest of your life.

We’re missing just a few ingrediants, and you’re one of them.

We’d love to have you lead us to those heights.

Sterling

1977 USC alumnus and season ticket holder here. If spurrier wants you, you must be a special person on and off the field. Look forward to watching you run out to 2001. Go Gamecocks!

Stephen, as a Jefferson (c/o ‘85) & UF (’89) alum, all I want to say is there’s no better combo of schools!!  And if you want to live in FLA post college, UF will afford you so many options, it’s crazy!  We Gators stick together - BIG TIME!!! Good luck in the upcoming season.
Go Dragons!
Go Gators!

UF is the best fit for you.  UF- reseason top 10 and has loads of young talent to provide playmakers throughout your career.  UF- proven young coach who runs plays that suit your strengths and is going to be around for a long time (Spurrier might be gone b/f you graduate).  Spurrier has won, but at Florida where he had a better recruiting base and a talent.  Don’t expect the same results at usc.  UF is better academically.  UF, you are no lower than #2 on the depth chart competing for playing time on a contender as a true fresh.  usc has never won and will not pass UF, UGA, & TENN in the east.  Come home to your childhood favorite and win championships, where we will be waiting for you to don the orange and blue.  Regadless, good luck.

There’s no atmosphere like South Carolina? How about a better atmosphere at the Swamp? Stephen, do what’s best for you. Florida wants QBs who aren’t afraid of the Tebow hype. South Carolina is just hoping SOS stays another 2 years.

Posted by  Texas Nat'l Champs fan, Atlanta, GA on 05/10  at  01:02 PM

Horns fan here.  Too bad we are already stocked and loaded at QB, think you are a good one.

Now my thoughts.

Why would a QB want to go to SC?  Have they ever won ANYTHING?  No.
How many top QBs have Spurrier put in NFL?

Bama?  That offense is just not appealing at all.  Its a 3 yards and a cloud of dust program.  Have always been and always will.

I think UF and Ole Miss would both be good choices.  Both are the most promising of all your faves.

Posted by  Roger Garcia, Birmingham on 05/10  at  11:26 AM

Stephen,

We really want you in Columbia, SC! I moved to Birmingham 3 years ago for my job and Alabama is a great southern state but it simply does not compare to S. Carolina! Columbia has 100 miles of Myrtle Beach shoreline just a short drive away and an hour and a half from Charleston which has the most beautiful women in the world and lots of em!!!!!
What more could any quarterback ask for than to have Steve SPurrier as your coach and mentor in college?
You already have family there which would make for an even happier transition!

We love you Stephen!
Come home to S. Carolina!

Posted by  Steven Nichols, Tuscaloosa, AL on 05/10  at  10:29 AM

We would love having you line up behind the number one offensive line class we signed last year. If you want to get hit every play and not be an NFL flop, go to UF if you want tomplay in a system that will allow you to prepare for tha NFL and play for the geatest tradition in college football, come to BAMA! 12 national cahmpionsips says it all.
