Carl Crawford ended Daisuke Matsuzake’s bid for a no-hitter with a solid single to right field when he led off the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1 of the ALCS at Tropicana Field.
The next Rays batter, designated hitter Cliff Floyd, followed Crawford’s hit with another single, this one to center field. Crawford moved to third base on the play.
The Rays failed to score, though. Dioner Navarro’s fly ball to left field wasn’t deep enough to score the fleet-footed Crawford. Gabe Gross then struck out and Jason Bartlett hit a grounder to shortstop that forced Floyd at second base for the final out.
That left Matsuzake and the Red Sox clinging to a 1-0 lead.
When Don Larsen through a perfect game against the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series, it was the first no-hitter in major league postseason history.
To date, it remains is the only no-hitter in an MLB playoff game of any kind.
Dice-K was 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA for the Red Sox during the regular season.

Why isn’t anyone questioning Maddon on why he refuses to bunt home a runner on third with less than two outs? He could have put Perez in to run for Floyd in the 7th giving us the two fastest base runners on 1st and 3rd with NO outs. Perez steals 2nd an then two sacrifice bunts and we take the lead and probably win. The way Dice-K was pitching, this was the way to go. I hope Maddoin’s do nothing approach does not cost us the series!!!
