ST. PETERSBURG—Left fielder Carl Crawford is out of the Rays’ lineup for a third consecutive day, and the Rays are continuing to take a hopeful, wait-and-see appraoch on his strained left shoulder.
Manager Joe Maddon said there has been no dicussion yet about putting Crawford on the disabled list and that he’s available to pinch-run in today’s three-game series finale against Arizona.
Crawford, who came out of Thursday’s game against Arizona after straining his shoulder the previous night on a throw home, said he done some stretching and taken some dry swings and will try to throw some on Monday. He said the shoulder feels “better” and he hopes he’ll be ready for the two-game series at AL East rival Boston that begins Tuesday.
“I was shooting for today, and it wasn’t right, so I’ll be shooting for Tuesday,” Crawford said.
The Rays will try to win the three-game series and salvage a 3-3 split on the six-game homestand. They’ll send struggling rookie Wade Davis to the mound against veteran Rodrigo Lopez, a former Baltimore Oriole.
Jason Bartlett gets the day off today, meaning Reid Brignac starts at shorstop. Matt Joyce is in left field again for Crawford. Here is Tampa Bay’s lineup:
Jaso, C
Rodriguez, 2B
Longoria, 3B
Pena, 1B
Zobrist, RF
Joyce, LF
Upton, CF
Blalock, DH
Brignac, SS
—
Davis, RHP
