Brandon wrestling coach Russ Cozart has added another milestone to his lengthy list of accomplishments.
During the Rob Hermann Hurricane Cup Duals Saturday at Citrus High, Cozart surpassed career victory 500 as his Eagles went 6-0 defeating Camden County (Ga.), 38-24, in the finals.
Brandon’s 65-6 win against Somerset Academy gave him No. 500. The Eagles went on to beat Somerset Academy, Jupiter and Camden, giving him 502 wins for his career.
Cozart earned the bulk of his victories after taking over the Eagles wrestling program in 1980, amassing 466 wins there. Before Brandon, he led Chamberlain (1978-80) to 12 wins and 24 wins during his time at Upland High in Upland, Calif.
Since taking over the Brandon program, Cozart has led the squad to 21 of the school’s 22 state team titles, including the past 11 consecutive seasons.
Saturday, Brandon beat Sandalwood, 76-6; New Orleans Jesuit, 59-18; Citrus, 53-15; Somerset, 65-6; Jupiter, 80-0 and Camden, 38-24.
