Could USF Land in International Bowl?

It’s that time of year when everyone and his brother starts listing their latest bowl projections. The Bulls didn’t do themselves any favors by not showing up at Rutgers on Thursday.

ESPN.com Big East blogger Brian Bennett has the Bulls going to the International Bowl in Toronto. I for one hope Bennett is right. Click here if you want to check out his bowl projections for the Big East.

The Rays and Lightning visit Toronto regularly, so why not the Bulls? Hey, I say they should even play at the SkyDome according to Canadian Football League rules. Why not make it a trip to remember?

Seriously, it’s still a little early, but I’d just soon to see the Bulls play in the St. Pete Bowl again against UCF. I love those in-state games, and with UCF upsetting Houston on Saturday, the Knights made a strong case for a decent bowl if they can finish out the season strong.

Stay tuned.

Scott…..if USF finishes 4-3 in the conference (8-4 overall) and RU finishes 4-3 in the conference (9-3 overall) wouldn’t USF’s two victories over ranked opponents give them an edge over RU in going to Ala. over St. Pete?

But if USF can’t go to Ala. and play an SEC team then I rather the team go to Canada and play a MAC school than a C-USA team….another St. Pete trip would be horrible!

Hey Hector,

If the scenario you mention plays out, I still think most would give Rutgers the edge over USF in bowl choice considering what transpired on the field Thursday.

Also, sometimes intriguing matchups and other factors outweigh on-field performance when the lower-tier bowl committees make their choice…the only way I would want to see USF in St. Pete Bowl again is if it against UCF ... otherwise, I say Birmingham or Toronto most likely.

Hard to see how a trip that far north would be desirable: The team rarely (ever?) plays well in the cold, and that writer is correct that something like 5 tickets would be sold to USF fans (and none to me). Way too far, too expensive, too cold, and for too little payoff.

Too cold?

They play the International Bowl in Rogers Centre (aka The Sky Dome).  That stadium has a retractable roof, so unless they keep the roof open for the game, the temperature for the game will be just like a Rays game at The Trop in the middle of the summer - a nice cozy 74 degrees.

and it will have just as many fans attending as a Rays game. Very few.

Hey, folks, that’s too close to New Year’s to get me to go on a plane to anywhere, much less to fly to the frozen north and die in Canada in JANUARY!!! It was cold enough in Carolina in January. No, thanks. The boys better gear up and win a few more and play somewhere WARM. As much as I hate thinking about going to the st Pete bowl again, I would actually GO to it, whereas I would be watching on TV if it’s Toronto. Man, just about anywhere else would get me on a plane. By the way, all the Big East bowl game’s names suck. SPB is probably least offensive
