TAMPA - With the start of the free-agency signing period just a few weeks away, the football hot stove league is heating up. One of the league’s piping hot rumors has RB Edgerrin James coming to Tampa.
The rumor was started by an ESPN analyst who suggested Tampa would be a good landing spot for James, who is expected to be released by the Cardinals before free agency begins.
James has apparently told folks close to him that he’d like to return to Florida. If so there might not be a better landing spot for him than Tampa, which could use a back of his various skills.
Sure, the Bucs have Earnest Graham as a workhorse starter, but they’re a little thin after that. James would give the Bucs added depth as well as someone to push Graham a bit.

I would not say having Graham, Dunn, and Caddy is thin.
I’d rather see them spend the big money Haynesworth, OTs that can block, and resigning Bryant. No more bargin bin players please!!!
Youngblood and Penn are at best backup level in the league.

Not thin at RB?
Dunn - old
Caddy - damaged goods
Bargain bin players make a difference. Every team needs them… Big-money free-agents are usually a high risk.
TRUEBLOOD (not Youngblood) and Penn are quality starters that many teams would be happy with. They’re not pro-bowlers, but there are much bigger needs on the team.

Another aging vet? Doesn’t make sense for a team that is trying to get, “younger.” Why not go after Darren Sproles, Larry Johnson, or better yet LT. Or, take a a RB in the draft, Moreno could be there for the Bucs in the 1st round.

No chance this happens. Edge is done and Tampa doesn’t need another old RB.
Draft Moreno or Wells if they’re there in the draft.

If the price is right, James may be a great addition. Caddy has not done anything for the last 4 years and Dunn is in his twilight years for football. If Caddy gets healthy, he cannot catch a pass (Like Clayton)! A new boss usually sweeps clean, I’m sure the new GM and Head Coach will not keep doing the things that Allen and Gruden did!

you all are smoking rocks, EJ is a beast, i hope he returns to the colts but he is not done, he is not an old man, he is a sick RB with amazing vision, you cant teach the skills he brings to a team, hes the best pass blocker in the game and should be getting 20+ carries a game.

I would prefer that we drafted a Rb in the second or 3rd round, hope Lesean Mcoy falls to us, i think he could be a good complement to EG. i dont think Edgerrin James has a lot left in his tank to help the BUCS, and at what price??
Suggest removalPor (cval) on February 09, 2009 (Suggest removal)
Moreno and Wells will be gone by #19 and in 2d rd, not much left. We need more than RB in 1st rd anyway. We have two great backs on injured list. James would be very smart pickup. We can run him til the other two are back to full speed. If he still has a tankful, 3 RB’s are a good thing. Look at the Giants. Plus, he’s a great receiver out of the backfield.

Just watching this man run over people last season and thinking about how many times we couldn’t get 1 yard in the red zone. If they can get him for what Dunn is getting paid, go for it and dump Dumm.

If the bucs are considering bringing in a young QB than the bucs should sign him to help take the pressure off of a young QB.The goods RB’s in the draft could be gone before we get a chance to draft one-especially if these guys run a good 40 yd dash.James is still good-don’t get it twisted, the Cardinals didn’t use him because of their passing attack.I would sign him because he can help us alot-him and Grahm would be a nice rotation. We don’t need to go in the draft with too many needs-thats when you start reaching for players.

In his 3 years with Arizona James has had 2006 1159yds/3.5yd, 2007 1220yds/3.8yd, and 2008 514yds/3.9(did not play all year and had only a third of his yearly average carries).

Brandon Jacobs is suppose to be a FA. I would rather and try and land him then James.
Suggest removalWe definitly need another RB…Caddy is always going to have problems with his knee..EG can’t carry the load all season without getting hurt the way he plays..Love his toughness but he’ll get hurt playing like that all the time trying to get 1 yard…Dunn would be good for the screen passes but as a RB he is over his prime on that.
WE NEED TO PLUG OUR HOLES FOR THE BUCS FUTURE BY LANDING GREAT YOUNG TALENT..NOT SOMETHING TO JUST GET US BY.
AND DO NOT BREAK THE BANK ON HAYNSWORTH !! For what he is going to want we can get our WR,RB,QB that we need.
Por (TDarwin315) on February 09, 2009 (Suggest removal)
Simply put, if the price is right then sign EJ in a heartbeat case closed dont over spend though… now i gotta add my 2 cents in on Trueblood and Penn. I agree on Penn, the fact you dont hear his name called much during games is great, thats exactly what you want from your offencive lineman… Trueblood on the other hand, well during that 0-4 december, if you actually paid attention to the games, he was absolutely AWFUL!! he single handedly destroyed good drives for us by commiting holding or falst start or personal fouls penalties plus he gave up some sacks… if you want a new OT then its the RIGHT TACKLE not LT
Suggest removalPor (Dexter) on February 09, 2009 (Suggest removal)
Todd,i agree but you can’t bank on drafting a top running. If one is there than you draft him regardless of signing James.Dunn should be told to retire or be released-Cadillac will not play this year plus i don’t think the new OC will use him anyway.I wouldn’t either break the bank for Haynesworth but the bucs should have a package set up for him just in case. You have to remember the bucs will release some guys on defense and will have more money to spend. If Haynesworth isn’t in the picture than Nnamdi Asomugha should be-THE BUCS SHOULD PAY THIS GUY!
Suggest removalPor (ref813) on February 09, 2009 (Suggest removal)
We don’t need another older, versatile back. Dunn is filling that role just fine. I’d take EJ over Dunn, but the difference isn’t so great that it will have any major impact on the O. We need to keep Penn. McCown may be our starting QB, finally. That leaves Phillips, Bryant, and Stevens as our top inside priorities. A lot of people have Moreno and Wells falling to at least 19th. I wouldn’t give up hope unless one of them does something ridiculous in the combine. After Williams’ injuries, I’d definitely prefer Moreno. If he’s not there, move to the next position of need. C. Smith can run some, too.

Are you crazy Tampa Fans. I think this would be a great chance to show the Fans and the Area. That Tampa is real serious about jump start from day one into the new Tampa Bay 2009 season. Plus I see Tampa picking up a nice RB in Mid rounds in the draft. James would be a great fit to keep our opponents at bay. The offensive line will even be better than previous years.GO BUCS

No Edge.
Keep EG, release Williams and Dunn.
Need to sign D. Sproles, S. Jackson, or D.Ward.
Suggest removalPor (Noah) on February 10, 2009 (Suggest removal)
Why would we get another washed up veteran when we are trying to get younger? James’ best days are behind him, he had a good career. He needs to retire. We need to draft a running back, not sign a guy in the twilight of his career
Suggest removalPor (Tony_Buc) on February 10, 2009 (Suggest removal)
know what id like 2 c him in pewter and red he’d make a good goaline back and he does add depth. id also like us 2 try getting clifton involed more with our offense too, he does so good kick-returning and at seeing holes i say get him some plays in the offense and see what happens you never know!
Suggest removalPor (oar) on February 10, 2009 (Suggest removal)
Tony_Buc, not so sure? I’d like Clifton to stay at returning. ie: look what happened to Devin Hester.
Suggest removalPor (Noah) on February 10, 2009 (Suggest removal)
Oar, i don’t think u can make that point with Hester, because Devin Hester was never a good receiver or a good cornerback at Miami. So big surprise he comes to the NFL and is still not good at either. Hester was drafted solely on his ability to return kicks and punts, not to be a receiver or a cornerback. I think Clifton could be an exception. You might have forgotten that he led the Bucs in receptions during the preseason last year, so I think he has potential to be effective as a 3rd-down back.
