There is a possibility the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could draft Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy with its No.3 pick or trade for Chiefs DT Glenn Dorsey - if the Bucs are interested.
According to Detroit News beat writer Tom Kowalski, Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham is interested in trading for Chiefs DT Glenn Dorsey. Here is what he said: MLive.com
“The reason he might be available is because the Chiefs drafted Dorsey as a 4-3 defensive tackle and they’ve now switched schemes and he’s playing a 3-4 end. Neither the Chiefs nor Dorsey is apparently happy with the results and that’s why I think the Lions might make a play for him in the off-season. I still think it’s a longshot, but it’s a shot worth taking.
“As for trade value, I’m not sure what he’d cost. I think you might see something a little creative, like swapping of picks in a round or two, as opposed to a straight-up one-for-one deal. We’ll see if this heats up as we get closer to the draft.”
Dorsey was drafted fifth overall by Kansas City in 2008. Kansas City definitely needs a safety and the team is very interested in Tennessee S Eric Berry, who many experts say could be the next Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu or Bob Sanders. What will be interesting to watch is if Detroit would trade its No.2 overall draft pick to Kansas City for the Chiefs’ No.5 slot and Dorsey. Kansas City could move up to draft Berry, while Detroit could draft Oklahoma State LT Russell Okung to protect QB Matthew Stafford.
Of course, if Tampa Bay likes Dorsey’s potential better than McCoy’s, the Bucs have 10 draft picks and could use one of them to trade with Kansas City. Trading for Dorsey could allow Tampa Bay to select Berry and possibly fill a need at defensive tackle.
All of this is speculation right now, but Detroit’s belief in Dorsey could eventually affect Tampa Bay.
