Any fans of Young Frankenstein will remember this line - which pretty much sums up USF’s loss to Rutgers.
While digging up a dead body in a graveyard, Igor says “Could be worse.”
Dr. Frankenstein: “How?”
Igor: “Could be raining.”
And, of course, it immediately starts pouring.
Sort of like USF’s lopsided loss to Rutgers. Any talk of winning out and finishing with the best record in school history is gone. The Bulls made a ton of mistakes - penalties, special team blunders, turnovers.
Anyone remember that 5-0 start? Was it for real or a mirage? USF has lost four of its last five and is guaranteed a losing record in Big East play for the first time in program history.
There is now a very real possibility that the Bulls, once ranked No. 10 in the nation, might not get a bowl bid if they lose out against UConn and West Virginia.
Ironically early in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t the emergence of rain showers that drove most of the fans out - it was the deluge of points Rutgers was putting up.
Questions, comments, fire away. I’ll check back later today.

As strange as it sounds USFs football program has outgrown Leavitt.
He may be great for an underdog program playing for the upset. But he has proven he can’t coach a frontrunner.
I bet Woolard (the AD) is regretting that ill-timed contract extension.

Terry. How’s that South Carolina thing working out for you? Good to see a moron like you is having such a miserable day. Bulls I-AA.

A couple more observations:
1. the worst running team USF has ever had I believe?
2. this team lacks depth at many positions. Example was playing two OL last game & Leavitt saying they should not have played. Says alot when seriously injured personnel are better than their healthy backups.
3. remove strategy of offense required to get plays from sideline. Borderline academic players could have difficulty adjusting to new play with just 1 to 2 seconds prior to snap.
4. recruit players w/character. result will be players that play hard entire game.
5. need coaching changes. won’t be Leavitt due to contract, but OC &/or others must go.

1. penalties killed drives; especially first possession.
2. Grothe running like before, but stayed in pocket too much when passing.
3. fumbles not coaches fault.
4. USF played too long w/o throwing ball deep; Rutgers keyed on short & intermediate passes.
5. finally a screen pass, but failed & we never saw it again.
6. drove into red zone, but penalties/poor play execution followed.
7. this team can not deal w/adversity & lacks character after getting behind.
8. for die hard Leavitt fans, hope you’re seeing what we’ve been saying? 6-6 this year & 5-7 next year.
9. B.J. Daniels must start next yr to ready for 2010.

I’ve seen enough of Leavitt. This program is stale. This team has not been mentally prepared all year. they play with no emotion. The sideline looks like a morgue. Can’t fault Gregory for this one. I’ve been critical of him but I thought he called an o.k. game. Can’t blame the turnovers on him. I don’t remember an empty backfield all day!! Used his best receiver and got Grothe out of the pocket some.

Note to Greg Gregory:
The Gators just scored again! Teams do score more than two TDs a game! USF will get rolled up by UCONN. They will have 200+ yards on the ground. Gregory must go...if he doesn’t then Leavitt must go!

That’s right, Ric....forgot about that “very good” Syracuse squad.
And actually, Coach Leavitt said UT-Martin, FIU, UCF, etc. were also all “very good.”
So, I guess we do have six wins against “very good” teams.
Thanks for pointing that out and lifting my spirits.

Hector, I asked that question earlier this week: can USF reach the next level under Leavitt - look for What’s Gone Wrong With USF on the website? I think it’s a legit question.

Patrick, don’t forget we beat a ‘very good’ Syracuse football team.

Our best win is against a 6-5 (likely to be 6-6) Kansas team.
Wow. Impressive.
We don’t deserve a bowl game. What have we done to deserve it? Wins against Tennessee Martin, FIU, UCF, and that powerhouse Kansas squad?
Whoop-dee-doo.
We are terrible.
Can we just forfeit the last two games to save further humiliation?

Your team plays like a bunch of fairies.

Can we have a rematch?

Bill… FWIW… there were more fans in the stadium at the end of this debacle than what the Bucs had during their down years. Go back in the corner now with your keyboard and keep chatting with 15-year old boys.

The coaches are responsible for the ‘meltdown’ of this team and for not getting the guys ready to play. This is a crisis, but who’s going to bail us out? Not anybody currently on the coaching staff. It seems the other team always ‘wants it more’. Anybody can come into our house and push us around. We have become the BE whipping boys.

Wow… Pretty speechless about the performance. Not sure where the heart is. We lost some tough games back in 2000, but the guys never gave up in the game like this one. The penalties are getting downright pathetic. The fourth quarter… I actually felt bad for Grothe. He really had no help whatsoever. Either way… Go South Carolina… Misery deserves company!

I hope all you USF fans enjoyed the pounding you took while touching you toes! What a joke of a team!!! Ha, ha, ha, ha.......
By the way, nice empty stadium! Maybe you should play at Plant. Plus, your coach look like a clown running up and down the sideline! I guess recruiting kids with low SAT scores doesn’t translate to wins. Go Commuter U!!!!!! I can’t wait to watch the WVU game. GO BUCS!

Brett...I have a serious question. I am not advocating that USF fire anyone but is it realistic to say that Leavitt has peaked here at USF?
I do not see him being the coach to take you to a BE championship or a BCS game. These players have given up and if this is any indication of things to come...next year will be worse with some many more loses in personnel coming.

What was said at the players’ only meeting. Maybe it was, “let’s pack it in so we do not have to play in a bowl game and that is how much sooner we can get away from the headbutter.”
This team is unable to be mentally prepared against any D1 school.
They are college kids so I will blame it on the “men” who can handle it, the coaches.
THIS TEAM WAS NOT PREPARED.
The only thing that can be done is to start Gregory or some other quarterback, there is no other was to shake things up.

Bill… UF still has to get by Bama to control their fate. Nothing like losing to Ole Miss at home to a first year coach.
