Ask a question

Luke McCown just nicely atoned for his horrendous interception by scrambling down the right sideline and subsequently hitting Chad Lucas for a short touchdown to make it 23-17.
Nothing happened tonight to make the Bucs quarterback depth chart any clearer. Five guys in (presumably) three slots is not good math. So who stays and who goes? That was the question going into training camp, and it seems no clearer now - other than to note, of course, that Chris Simms might as well have been watching other preseason games in the locker room tonight.

The sad part is we’re going to let the best QB from the bunch go!! Garcia doesn’t have rust, he wants more money and he’ll keep making bad decisions and throwing interceptions until he gets what he wants. Oh I’m sorry, he missed a few practice. Simms missed a few years and looked better than Garcia. I bet Gruden doesn’t want to put Simms out there cause he’ll show the three musketeers how the game is played. It’s going to be a long season folks!! Let me know where Simms is going so I can root for a new team. He’ll win a SB before Tampa wins one, my money is on Simms.

Nick, I’ve been a Bucs fan since 1976 and truthfully, it sickens me to see how coaching decisions are made on the basis of ego and politics instead of true talent. If Simms got the work the others get (HE DOES NOT), he’d definitely shine. Oh well. Do or Die!

I only became a Buc fan when it was reported that “The Tuna” was coming and I remained a fan because I Thought Jon Gruden was a good second choice? Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! You just can not go back home. He totally over-manages his offense and can not even identify a quarterback to lead his offense to be a winner! Gruden came to a winning franchise and made it into a loser and watch Bill Parcels in Miami! Watch him turn around his sixth “loser” into a winner in record time. My friend, that is the offensive “Guru!”

Yeah Guys, please go find another bandwagon. Victor when was the last time that Parcells won a SB? Please leave and don’t let the door hit ya!

Nick & Victor:
Suggest removalYou guys are absolutely CRAZY! Simms had his opportunity and they paid the guy 2mil a yr to sit on the bench. They’ve treated him well! Remember, he can’t get the ball over the D-line, it happened again last week aganist the Pats. He’s horrible and needs to be dealt! He burried himself earlier in the offseason w/ his comments about Gruden. He needs to look at his bank account and remember where it came from! Gruden is the man! Go Bucs!
Por (flbucs1) on August 24, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Oh yeah, and as far as Parcells. He didn’t do much in BIG D! He didn’t win nothing there, no superbowls and he surely won’t have one in Miami anytime soon! I am glad the Tuna didn’t come here, he stinks.

1 bad game and it’s time to beat up the Coach. Are you nuts? Garcia did suck. I’m sick of his antics, & if that was any indication where his head is, he is in trouble. The Texans are up next week & we’ll see what happens. Simms isn’t the answer. If you want to leave with Simms, please do. The team could have played better, but why throw in the towel? This is crazy. We were a few yards & a few more seconds away from a win last night, even when things weren’t going well. If you think the Jags & their Defense are a bunch of Hacks, your a Fool. The Jags are a serious force to be reckoned with. They are going to kick some butts this year. We just have to regroup & get better. Go Bucs!!!
Suggest removalPor (Skylar Zalamut) on August 24, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Griese should and may be our starter this year. The offense clicks under him.
Suggest removalPor (raw_as_fuq) on August 24, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Griese the starter?! He looked just as bad as Garcia did! He would of had thrown 2 INTs in the endzone if the Jags defenders could catch. McCown looked better than Garcia & Griese besides that bad pass he threw.
Suggest removalPor (Mitch R) on August 24, 2008 (Suggest removal)
You guys have to be kidding about Simms. He’d shine as a starter? Are you kidding me? What’s his record as a starter? How good was he when the Bucs handed him the starting job and let Griese walk in 2006? Let me refresh your memories, he was 0-3 in 2006, 6-4 in 2005, 1-1 in 2004. That’s 7-8 in 15 starts and has a career QB rating of 71.2 and has absorbed 43 sacks in 19 games played. To say he was mediocre would be generous. He is where he is for a reason and any one of you that think he is another teams saviour is high on crack. The only way he wins a ring before the Bucs is if he is 2nd or 3rd string, not as a starter.

Man what a difference a week makes. Last week we stood tall and proud in front of our fans, And this week it looks like were are not there right now. I think Tampa should start McCown against Texans then bring in Griese and second half bring in Garcia the entire third quarter then Chris Simms the four quarter and maybe after that game He gets traded! Tampa will be a good team is they get back to old form and stop the oppositions. GO BUCS Then after that game take the 53 best players regardless of Experience. Maybe it is time for Garcia to retired. And Tampa can build for the future.

I have to say that McCown did look the best of the 3 QB’s. That run he made was gutsy & he kept going when most would have slid or ran out. Luke’s fighting hard for it. He still needs to clean it up & play wiser in the pocket, but it’s possible. Again, the Jags are a good team, but Garcia was scary bad last night. It looked like more than rust. It looked like rusted through & leaking all over the place. I hope he can bounce back. It was a humbling outing for Garcia after his Cocky “I only need 2 games” attitude. He needs his butt kicked, but that O line prevented that from happening.

Chris Simms is the best quaterback in the league! Hands Down. His golden locks and boyish smile command respect from his players and fear from opposing secondaries. He leaves it all on the field, including non vital organs. A true team player. When was the last you saw someone go two for four with a sack in a five minute span. Maybe if Gruden would stop calling the play where you close your eyes and throw the ball into the oncoming defensive line he’d have more success. This organization and coaching makes me sick. Give old lefty a chance! Besides as a casual fan I bought his jersey and charlie garners and I demand my moneys worth.

McCown QB rating last night was 68.8 and Griese’s was 82, but you don’t want to see the facts. You can gloss over the bad plays with good ones all you want, but I’d rather have a QB that minimizes mistakes, ala Griese. McCown gave the other team a score which nullifies his score. Griese wins games for us and puts us in scoring position on a consistent basis. I like McCown’s tangibles and I was hoping he could take the starting position away this year, but it looks like it’ll be another year at least; maybe never.

So it sounds like Garcia just needs to get his act together & play the way he is capable of playing. The backups are doing well but each has his faults. If we could just get a Quality QB. It would be nice to see Josh Johnson play most of the Texan’s game. He is young, but if Gruden turned him loose, let him run & give him some plays to show his talent, it my be entertaining. I’d like to see how far he can throw it. For that matter, I’d like to see how far any of our QB’s can throw it, except Simms. He’s out of here, hopefully for something in return.

Ben,
Do you have a crush on Chris Simms ? LOL !!!!!!!!!!
Suggest removalPor (Ben) on August 24, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Chris Simms doesnt want to throw the ball over the line of scrimmage because it’ll hurt everyones, including his dad’s, feelings by displaying how awesome he is.
Suggest removalPor (BigBucFan) on August 24, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Well now, it sure would have been nice if we had landed Brett Favre. Oh well, next week will be better.
Suggest removalPor (CVal) on August 25, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Yeah, McCown made a nifty run. Problem is, he waits too long to throw and misses opp’s to complete passes. So, move him to RB and let a real QB lead the offense. BTW, what part of a QB rating stats includes yards run? (it doesn’t)
Suggest removalPor (Greg) on August 25, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Regarding the Bucs QB situation: There is the possibility that Jeff Garcia has started showing his age, in which case the Bucs are in deep dodo. Griese while a capable back-up, does not inspire his team with the confidence a young Garcia does. Luke McCown just does not have what it takes to lead a team to a championship. He thinks like a hayseed! Which leads us to Josh Johnson. The kid looked athletic and took charge at his one opportunity but his lack of playbook knowledge will forever hold him back with Jon Gruden who is incapable of designing a game play for the most gifted of his QB’s. The Buc’s organization will either do a manificient con-job on it’s fans or find another QB down the road. JMO.
Suggest removalPor (ref813) on August 25, 2008 (Suggest removal)
Greg, I guess you’re the classic Gruden basher. In case you forgot, Garcia threw 3 of his 4 picks against the Jags last year. This is also his 1st game of the year. He got better the longer he was out there. McCown was fine other than that int. Johnson may be very athletic, but he’s a work in progress. I’d rather see Griese out there than Johnson this year. We will be a running team with short passes unless McCown takes over. Johnson may have a shot next year unless McCown steps up. It’s too early for him right now. He was a 5th rounder. They usually don’t start their 1st year at QB.

It’s okay, Garcia will get the rust knocked off of him like Carson Palmer, on September 7th.
