Luke McCown just nicely atoned for his horrendous interception by scrambling down the right sideline and subsequently hitting Chad Lucas for a short touchdown to make it 23-17.
Nothing happened tonight to make the Bucs quarterback depth chart any clearer. Five guys in (presumably) three slots is not good math. So who stays and who goes? That was the question going into training camp, and it seems no clearer now - other than to note, of course, that Chris Simms might as well have been watching other preseason games in the locker room tonight.

Fluer, with all sincerity. I hope you guys don’t get hit. If you do, it will take much more than sandbags & Boards. Your going to needs a Hydrolic Pump that’s about half the size of Texas. I really think before they started rebuilding New Orleans, they should have driven sheet piling, dug Canals, built seawalls, and created a Zillion yard of Fill Dirt, then haul in another Bazillion yards to get you up to at least +7 to +10. Then you build on piles or Stemwalls up to about +15 or +20. Simple problem, simple solution, except Corruption & Handouts are the #1 business in your area, & nobody wants to work, just sit around & complain. There’s always SCUBA.

Can I use your sandbags and boards from last week?
Oh, wait, you will need them for your O line… Damn it!
Oh well.

Further more, you sorry Saints loser. You make reference to Carson Palmer taking a cheap, low shot that put him out for a year, happening to our QB. You better knock on wood. If Brees goes down your done for good. I’d never wish that kind of injury on any player, but Slimeballs like you bring it on yourselves. Buc Fans can what they want about Garcia, but you Saint scum need to keep your mouths shut. Talk about your own sorry team. Don’t worry about us. We’re going to kick your smelley @$$es from Bourbon St to the Gulf of Mexico, I-10 to I-75 & all points in between.

I don’t care if the Bucs go 2-14, Your sorry @$$ Saints are the the 2, & you’re going down. Your Defense sucks. Your coach sucks. Your stadium still stinks from Katrina. Your Fans stink. You suck & everything about your team sucks. Spend $15 Billion to shore up that lake bed that’s gonna fill up with water again. I’m sick of tax dollars paying for stupid people’s mistakes like you & your sorry Saint City. You should change the name to Atlantis because it Sinks & it Stinks.

It’s okay, Garcia will get the rust knocked off of him like Carson Palmer, on September 7th.
Well, it just around the corner, fellas… get ready! The Saints are going to kick that butt.

Greg, I guess you’re the classic Gruden basher. In case you forgot, Garcia threw 3 of his 4 picks against the Jags last year. This is also his 1st game of the year. He got better the longer he was out there. McCown was fine other than that int. Johnson may be very athletic, but he’s a work in progress. I’d rather see Griese out there than Johnson this year. We will be a running team with short passes unless McCown takes over. Johnson may have a shot next year unless McCown steps up. It’s too early for him right now. He was a 5th rounder. They usually don’t start their 1st year at QB.

Regarding the Bucs QB situation: There is the possibility that Jeff Garcia has started showing his age, in which case the Bucs are in deep dodo. Griese while a capable back-up, does not inspire his team with the confidence a young Garcia does. Luke McCown just does not have what it takes to lead a team to a championship. He thinks like a hayseed! Which leads us to Josh Johnson. The kid looked athletic and took charge at his one opportunity but his lack of playbook knowledge will forever hold him back with Jon Gruden who is incapable of designing a game play for the most gifted of his QB’s. The Buc’s organization will either do a manificient con-job on it’s fans or find another QB down the road. JMO.

Yeah, McCown made a nifty run. Problem is, he waits too long to throw and misses opp’s to complete passes. So, move him to RB and let a real QB lead the offense. BTW, what part of a QB rating stats includes yards run? (it doesn’t)

Well now, it sure would have been nice if we had landed Brett Favre. Oh well, next week will be better.

Chris Simms doesnt want to throw the ball over the line of scrimmage because it’ll hurt everyones, including his dad’s, feelings by displaying how awesome he is.
Posted by todd, PSJ on 08/24 at 07:17 PM
Ben,
Do you have a crush on Chris Simms ? LOL !!!!!!!!!!
Posted by BigBucFan, Sarasota on 08/24 at 06:45 PM
So it sounds like Garcia just needs to get his act together & play the way he is capable of playing. The backups are doing well but each has his faults. If we could just get a Quality QB. It would be nice to see Josh Johnson play most of the Texan’s game. He is young, but if Gruden turned him loose, let him run & give him some plays to show his talent, it my be entertaining. I’d like to see how far he can throw it. For that matter, I’d like to see how far any of our QB’s can throw it, except Simms. He’s out of here, hopefully for something in return.

McCown QB rating last night was 68.8 and Griese’s was 82, but you don’t want to see the facts. You can gloss over the bad plays with good ones all you want, but I’d rather have a QB that minimizes mistakes, ala Griese. McCown gave the other team a score which nullifies his score. Griese wins games for us and puts us in scoring position on a consistent basis. I like McCown’s tangibles and I was hoping he could take the starting position away this year, but it looks like it’ll be another year at least; maybe never.

Chris Simms is the best quaterback in the league! Hands Down. His golden locks and boyish smile command respect from his players and fear from opposing secondaries. He leaves it all on the field, including non vital organs. A true team player. When was the last you saw someone go two for four with a sack in a five minute span. Maybe if Gruden would stop calling the play where you close your eyes and throw the ball into the oncoming defensive line he’d have more success. This organization and coaching makes me sick. Give old lefty a chance! Besides as a casual fan I bought his jersey and charlie garners and I demand my moneys worth.

I have to say that McCown did look the best of the 3 QB’s. That run he made was gutsy & he kept going when most would have slid or ran out. Luke’s fighting hard for it. He still needs to clean it up & play wiser in the pocket, but it’s possible. Again, the Jags are a good team, but Garcia was scary bad last night. It looked like more than rust. It looked like rusted through & leaking all over the place. I hope he can bounce back. It was a humbling outing for Garcia after his Cocky “I only need 2 games” attitude. He needs his butt kicked, but that O line prevented that from happening.

Man what a difference a week makes. Last week we stood tall and proud in front of our fans, And this week it looks like were are not there right now. I think Tampa should start McCown against Texans then bring in Griese and second half bring in Garcia the entire third quarter then Chris Simms the four quarter and maybe after that game He gets traded! Tampa will be a good team is they get back to old form and stop the oppositions. GO BUCS Then after that game take the 53 best players regardless of Experience. Maybe it is time for Garcia to retired. And Tampa can build for the future.

You guys have to be kidding about Simms. He’d shine as a starter? Are you kidding me? What’s his record as a starter? How good was he when the Bucs handed him the starting job and let Griese walk in 2006? Let me refresh your memories, he was 0-3 in 2006, 6-4 in 2005, 1-1 in 2004. That’s 7-8 in 15 starts and has a career QB rating of 71.2 and has absorbed 43 sacks in 19 games played. To say he was mediocre would be generous. He is where he is for a reason and any one of you that think he is another teams saviour is high on crack. The only way he wins a ring before the Bucs is if he is 2nd or 3rd string, not as a starter.

Griese the starter?! He looked just as bad as Garcia did! He would of had thrown 2 INTs in the endzone if the Jags defenders could catch. McCown looked better than Garcia & Griese besides that bad pass he threw.
Posted by Skylar Zalamut, Tampa, FL on 08/24 at 12:17 PM
Griese should and may be our starter this year. The offense clicks under him.

Maybe this time they’ll get really smart and move the city. That’s just too much to ask though.
