Danielle Collins of St. Petersburg and Rebecca Bodine of Tarpon Springs will meet in the semifinals of the USTA National Open under-18 championship in Tallahassee on Tuesday after both swept past their opponents in the quarterfinals.
No.4 seed Collins eased to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Kara Cecil of Lakeland, while No.9 seed Bodine defeated No.2 seed Jacqueline Kasler of Gulf Breeze 6-0, 6-2.
Collins won a USTA National Open earlier in the year, one of two tournament victories this year. In her last event, Collins reached the final of the Florida State Closed Sectional before falling to Chichi Scholl of Pompano Beach 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.
A win could give Bodine her first final appearance in an under-18 draw this year. Bodine won the under-16 division of the Florida State Closed Sectional with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Julia Jones from Largo early in June. It will be the first competitive meeting between the two players since Bodine defeated Collins 6-1, 6-1 in the St. Petersburg Tennis Club Super Series last August.
