There may be only five Hillsborough County football teams alive in the playoffs, but players from other schools will get at least one more shot to go at it on the field.
King coach Alvin Davis and Bloomingdale’s John Booth will guide players selected to play in the Hillsborough County High School All-Star Football Game. The week of practice starts Monday at King and Tuesday at Bloomingdale. The game will take place at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Raymond James Stadium.
Davis, who just completed his fourth season at King, will lead the West squad, while Booth, in his third year at Bloomingdale, will guide the East all-stars.
“It’s an honor,” said Davis, who coached in the Pinellas County North-South All-Star Game during his 12 years at Gibbs. “I’ve never done it in Hillsborough County, so this is a good experience for me, too. I’m happy about it and it’s a good opportunity to have some of my staff work an all-star game.”
This is the second consecutive season Booth has participated in the all-star game. Last season he was a position coach.
“I’m looking forward to it. It should be fun,” Booth said. “I think (the past all-star experience helps) to a certain degree, but anytime you’re kind of in charge and it’s up to you to select the roster and establish your coaching staff, it does make it kind of challenging.
“But what’s nice about it is once it’s all set and done, it’s a really enjoyable week. You’re dealing with great players and experienced coaches, so it makes for a fun environment that week.”
